600gal Reef Tank build in NE Ohio

Well I've finally begun the build of my dream tank. I purchased the brand new, never used 600gal. tank from a guy that wasn't happy with a slight blemish in the 1" thick acrylic. Not sure what it is but it looks like something got on the inner wall. Its see through and only a few inches so I didn't mind it especially seeing as the price was right.

The tank is 8' x 4' x 30" tall and will be a room-divider - viewable from 3 of the 4 walls. (One end will be up against a wall) I plan to have a bar built under it on at least one side and hopefully both depending if it is feasible.

The major challenge will be the height - the room it is in has a concrete slab foundation and a lower ceiling than the kitchen (bi-level house) and the viewing area in the kitchen may be obstructed if I go with a bar on that side.

The tank has a 12"x12" center overflow and will drain into the basement. I will have two 300gal. tubs there that are frag grow-out tubsand from which I buy/sell/trade with other hobbiests. After the 2 growout tubs, the water will be divided into a 150gal. refugium tub and a 150gal. tub with live rock. After that the water will be pumped back upstairs into the 600gal. display tank.

I have a lot of work to do but am looking forward to making my dream tank a reality.

I've been working on the area for the tank. Installed GFI outlets, removed the counter and cabinets and gotten some needed materials. Stand to be brought in and assembled today!

Stand

A buddy of mine offered to build the stand and did an amazing job with it. Designed using steel and wood to really help with weight dispersion.

Great job Gerry!

WOW on that stand.

Quick question... Is that hotwater baseboard heat or electric?

Thanks - the stand is ridiculous and better than I could have ever done myself. I have hot-water / boiler heat. I'm hoping it'll help heat the tank in the winter months.

Destroy a wall!

Drilling holes to anchor the stand:

It's going to be awesome Kevin can't wait to see it! The unicorn will love it! Got lots of frags for you!

Thanks Krista!!! =) I can't wait to see the unicorn and Naso swimming in this. A bit more "leg" room. =) :fish1::fish1::fish2:

Man that is going to be a nice looking tank!! I'm in the market for a larger tank, let me know if your selling your old setup!

Let me know some details on the 300DD, age and condition. I'm looking to upgrade to a 220, however if the price is right and the tank is not to old I may be interested. Where in
NE Ohio are you located?

My buddy is also looking for a Cube, is your 80 Rimless a cube?

I bought it 3 or 4 years ago used. Haven't had any problems. A couple minor scratches but nothing major. The 80 is a couple years old but is 4' long and not a cube.

I'm in Ashtabula.

Looks awesome so far. Superb dimensions on the 600. What are you going to use for ciruculation? Seems like you won't have room on the non-viewable side to mount any pumps (too close to wall). Perhaps you'll attached them to the overflow pointing out?

Will you put doors on the stand itself? I assume so but curious. Looking forward to seeing the progress. The sump area sounds pretty epic too.

Thanks! Not sure about circulation - thinking a couple Gyre's or maybe the bigger Jebao wave-makers. I was going to mount whatever I go with on the top panel of acrylic on the wall side or go off of the overflow as you mentioned. I'm planning on skinning the stand too - just not sure with what yet. I may go with the stacked rock skin or go with wood painted white. Not sure just yet.

Slow going. Got sand rinsed and put in the tank. Removed all water after completely rinsing sand for the 3rd time and filled with all the fresh mixed RO water I had. 160 gallons in! Now waiting for the RO tank to fill while I work on plumbing and lighting.
