Here is is a list of what I have now, and what I am thinking about adding... The Display is about 600gal and the total water vol will be close to 1k once everything is up and running...

I have the following :

Coral Beauty
Purple Tang
3x Green Chromis
Scooter Blenny
Lawnmower Blenny
2x Percula Clown
Green Mandarin Goby
2x Neon Goby

Fish I am pretty sure about :

9x Green Chromis (total of 12)
2-4x Neon Goby (total of 4-6)
Royal Gramma (have heard people keeping a few in a tank) ??
2-4x Rainford Goby
Flame Angel
Anthias (not sure what kind(s)...
Foxface Rabbitfish (not sure what kind)
2-4x Purple Firefish Goby
Spotted Mandarin Goby
Niger Trigger
Common Cleaner Wrasse
Other Wrasse ??

I am debating the Tangs as they get kinda big...

Achilles Tang (want to try for sure)
Black Longnose (want to try)
Blue (Hippo) Tang(maybe)
Naso Tang
Powder Blue
Sailfin Tang
Yellow Eye Tang
A few Yellow Tangs
A few Purple Tangs

Masudai Hog (down the road)

Harlequin Tusk (thining about)
Regal Angel (thinking about)

Any input ??

I think he's probably just tossing out ideas now... but I agree, tangs are such a tricky proposition.

I love your ideas and I'm jealous of your tank. You should think about getting your scooter and mandarins partners, rather than going to the spotted, so you can see them put on their dorsal displays... it's a real sight, lemme tellya. a good kind of anthias for that tank might be the bartlett's or the bimacs. But moderately hardy, though all anthias eat like pigs. If I were you I'd stay away from the clear wrasses... I'm sure you've heard the horror stories of them dying in the aquarium environment, though what isn't said is that they're also missed on the real reef.

I have 6 grammas in my 180
It was 10 but they dominate male mostlikely killed off the other males
Its a cool looking display with them in and out of the rock work

Heres another cool fish thats cheap < I'd do 3 convict tangs in there. there smaller and stay together
just a thought

I second the coments about the mandarin partners and also that cleaners just die in the tank, extremely hard to find one that eats. Think moorish idol hard, except at least a moorish idol's natural food source can be replicated in our systems. Cleaner wrasse don't have that luxury. If you go with the Tuskfish, its gorgeous, but it will eat your inverts, including snails. Personally, I wouldn't want to have to restock a cleaning crew for a 600g tank all the time! Regal Angel would be gorgeous, but if you are planning on keeping corals, I hear they clean you out of house and home with softies, are questionable on LPS and relatively safe with SPS. A school of one species of tangs, rather then a few purple and a few yellow, might be pretty amazing! You don't have any butterfly fish on your list, so I'm thinking you'll be going with some corals, but if you *are* FOWLR then maybe some butterfly fish, they are really gorgeous.

Make sure to get some conchs to keep your sandbed clean.

 I think I'd narrow your Tang selection down to maybe 4 or 5 [or less]considering you want so many other fish

As IanInDC stated, I am just throwing out the Tangs that I like... I was not planning on having that many in there...

I really want an Achilles and Black Longnose Tang for sure... And like I said I have an older larger Purple Tang (about 8" or so)...

You are correct, I was just listing the tangs that I would like to have, not all housed in the system LOL...

I did forget to list that but I wanted to get a mate for the Mandarin and Scooter... Would I still be able to house a mated paid of spotted ??

I read that you need to feed Anthias like 3 times a day, I was going to look into a good auto feeder so that I could feed throughout the day... Have any ideas on a good feeder ?? I was looking at the Eheim 3581 Digital Auto Feeder as well as the Pentair Aquatics / Rainbow Lifegard Auto Fish Feeder...

Thank you for your post, I was thinking about a few grammas... Not sure yet... I had tossed around the idea of a Convict Tang, maybe getting a few would not be a bad idea depending on what I do about the other Tangs...

This is going to be a mixed reef... I am going to mostly have LPS with some softies along with a few clams, and SPS... As for the substrate, I am going with a faux SB but I am thinking about having a good sized "sand box" in the corner... I have heard people keeping Harlequin Tusk in a reef, but I guess it's like any other fish, hit or miss...

I would love to have a Regal Angel but I guess now thinking about it I have seen them in SPS dominate reefs...

I do like Copperband and a few other butterfly fish but I know they have to be added with "caution"...

For the initial stocking I want to add fish that I don't have to worry about with my corals and later down the road I might try my hand at other "questionable" fish and if they don't work out I should have my 220gal setup that I will have setup as a FOWLR that I can toss them in there if they don't work out in the 600gal reef...

My Tusk does not realy harass my inverts, but any fish that fits in his mouth is a goner. I wouldn't want to try it with gobies and such. If the gobies do make it, you probably won't ever see them.

How safe it the Niger trigger? I would like to try one as well but have heard mixed reviews.

Ah, yes! I missed this...I had a Niger try to take my finger off once , so I am not a fan...I think A Bluethroat or Pinktail might work better [and you can keep your fingers too;) ]
