6015 question

Is this the smallest Tunze head? Does it have anything to control it (aftermarket) or is it 475gph on, 0gph off?

It is the lowest flow, the smallest physical size is the 6020. The 6055 is the equivalent in a DC to the 6015 and is the same physical size and can be speed controlled, it is capable of even lower flow. The 6045 is also the same size and has a mechanical control with 4 flow settings, the lowest being the same as the 6015. The 6040 is the smallest DC pump, it is the same physical size as the 6020. The non DC pumps cannot be speed controlled and will click on start up, frequent on and off will break the propeller assembly and is not recommended, the maximum recommended is 15 min between off and on cycles. The DC models include a controller and 2 speeds can be set and the pump pulses between the 2 speeds.

While we are on the subject of the 6040, which works great by the way, I have been running them with the pulse power off so they run for 5 seconds and then are off for 5 seconds. It gives me a nice turbulent flow without too much flow. Is it too rough on the propeller assembly this way or does that only apply to the AC pumps? I figured since it does the same thing in wave mode they'd be ok.

Since I have you here, the 3161 got delayed, it is a problem with the mold, the parts stamp out in such a way that plastic sticks to the mold and they looks scratched and crazed, I now expect them late January, it just needs to be polished and fine tuned to work.

This only applies to the AC pumps, the DC pumps never spin backwards and never hit the front housing and that eliminates this sort of wear.

Thanks for the update on the 3161 and I'm glad to hear it's ok to run the 6040s the way I am. Makes a nice alternating and ever-changing surge because sometimes they are on together and other time they are opposite.

So all the DC pumps, i.e. 6040, 6095, 6055, 6155 can run in 'off' while in pulse mode and not trash anything or cause wear?

That would make me just thrilled!!!!! I was not running them in off because I was worried about trashing an expensive pump.

Affirmative! :)
