6025 operational question

I purchased two of these to replace my maxijets in my tank. I know that these are designed for smaller tanks than mine (a 150) I am surprised that the flow dissipates 6 inches from the pump?! If I put my hand in front of it I feel a very low flow immediately in front of it and no flow 6 inches away.

Any thoughts? It doesn't seem normal for something that is supposed to have a flow of 600 gph.

They probably are running backwards. Try restarting them and double check that the prop assembly isn't stuck with sand or some foreign object.

I restarted them and checked the prop assembly. They seem to be running forwards - water is flowing out, not sucking in.

They just don't seem to be pushing as much water as I would have thought they would. I would assume that they would push more water than my MJ1200s? or at least the same?

I have them facing forward on my 18" deep tank and the flow isn't anywhere near hitting the front of the tank. It barely moves water at 8 inches.

The flow will have no where near the force of a maxijet, it is a very low pressure flow. Low pressure flow is ideal because it is more gentle to corals and plankton, that is why people are switching to prop pumps. I am not sure what you are observing. If you just mean the flow has very little force, this is correct. But there should be a gentle flow filling a 2ft by 18" area. Can you go to my stickied thread on 6025 vs 6045 and compare your flow to the flow of the pumps in the picture? Those pumps are roughly 1" below the surface and aimed straight up.

Roger,

Thanks. I'll pull the pumps out this evening and try the same with my pumps. I'll post a picture if I think they are different.

Roger,

I finally got the pumps out and took a picture. As you can see, they definitely do not have the flow of your pictures! Now what? Can I return them to you or through the vendor? I'd be interested in exchanging them for 6045s if possible. Both pumps are pointed straight up in about 12 inches of water.

The flow looks correct, I had the pump 1 inch below the surface in that photo. I think they are correct. I would be happy to check them out for you but if they are 1 foot below the surface that is about what I would expect.
