6045 running bacwards

I have a 6045, about a year old, that runs backwards at startup.

I took it apart. Everything looks good to me. I cleaned it and put it back together - still runs backwards. If I put my hand in front of the flow, it does correct itself.
Is there an easy fix for this?

I had been turning this particular pump off at night. Is a daily starting too often?

any help would be appreciated.

This is how this works-

1) On start up the propeller will spin either way at random. If it spins backwards it should hit the stops in the front cover, fall back and in falling back pick up the correct direction. The front cover has stops on the back of the cross hatch.

2) When they stay spinning backwards, something is preventing the process above from happening.

The options in order of probability are-

1) Broken propeller, look for a broken end of the blade so it clears the stops and can keep spinning.

2) Dirty, calcium build up on the shaft or hole in the drive unit can prevent the propeller from freely sliding back and forth so it does not hit the front stops.

3) Badly worn disk or propeller, possible if these parts are more than 4 years old.

4) Broken cross hatch in the front housing.

Thank you, that was very clearly stated.

Pump is clean and the impeller/propeller looks fine.

Upon closer inspection, I think the front housing plastic might be the problem. I can't say for sure; I don't know how it looked when it was new - I couldn't find a good picture. The grill is not broken or cracked but it does appear to be worn along the outer edge. Is that where the propeller contacts before reverses?

What you want to check are the swoops that are on the inside of the pump behind one of the bars of the cross at the outlet of the pump, these should not be damaged and it is imperative that the shaft and hole in the drive unit that spins on the shaft are clean for this system to work. Is this an older 6045 or one of the newer models with flow control?

Roger,

It is the one with flow control.

I think we are talking about the same spot to stop the propeller. I'll try to attach an image to be sure.

Roger,

I suppose it is broken off and that is the problem.

As I said before, it was hard for me to tell because I didn't know what it was supposed to look like.
