6055 problem

I have a 6055 with 7091 controller that I purchased about 2 years ago. About a year ago the pump quit working so I took it out of the tank and set it aside. About a month ago I pulled it out and gave it a vinegar bath/cleaning and it seemed to work again.

After being in the tank for about a day it shut down so I just pulled it out of the tank, unplugged it and left it for a few days and tried again and it worked. About a an hour later it shut down again.

I can see the pump twitching when it's not spinning so it's trying to move. I've tried it with and without the controller and it made no difference. I also noticed it's producing bubbles from the housing where the magnet sits when it does run.

Any ideas what it could be?

When you clean it, are you disassembling it first? The key is to get the propeller out and soak it and the motor separated. Calcium builds up between the shaft and hole in the prop and soaking in vinegar alone won't clean this unless it is disassembled first.

So I took the powerhead apart and soaked it in a strong vinegar bath over the weekend then cleaned it up and put it back together to try again and it still won't stay running. I tried with and without the controller. When holding it I can feel it trying to turn, then it will start to spin and spin for about 15 seconds, getting weaker as it runs then it will stop and try to turn for about 10 seconds and take off again then stop

I suspect the motor is failing, if it is less than 2 years old it should be covered under warranty, you would need to contact Xenia. Otherwise you would need to replace the motor block 6055.100 and I would still contact xenia as generally their would be a discount in the event of an early failure.
