6055 will not spin

Limpit

I have a pair of 6055's on a 6095 controller purchased in Jan. of this year. One of the pumps has stopped working. I took the front cover off and removed the impeller thinking that it needed to be cleaned of calcium but the pump is totally clean. What is strange is that the impeller will spin if the pump is out of the water ( I only plugged it in for a second or two). Then if I place it in the water it will not spin when plugged in and the light on the power supply will blink on and off. It does not matter if I connect the faulty pump to the other power supply, it will do the same things. This has me baffled.
Hope you can help me out.
Thank you

Roger,

I am having the same problem with my 6055. All clean and will spin with a bit of help starting. Then when it goes in the water it stops spinning.

I would like to add that when powere is applied the prop is attempting to spin but is just occelating very rapidly until I give it a good spin. Then it may kick in and spin on its own. However, like
I said before when it goes into the water it just stops. I can see the prop and attempting to move but nothing happens.

Check the following, hold the magnet of the prop in one hand and try to turn the prop blades, if they turn freely on the magnet and don't stop then the drive unit is worn and needs to be replaced, the magnet is turning without engaging the prop.

Also be sure the pump is clean, the well the magnet sits in and the shaft it spins on should be free of any calcium, you can simply fill the well with straight vinegar to dissolve any deposits.

Roger,

The prop turns a short distance and then it catches. I did let vinegar sit in the well overnight and still the problem persists. Is there supposed to be any free play of the prop on the magnet or some till it catches?

Chris

Drive units made since late 2008 are tight, the prop can turn if forced but not easily. Older props had free play and could turn about 180 degrees before they hit stops. The stiffness of the newer ones eliminates some of the clicking noise of older pumps.
