6060 runs backwards

Phisher

Wut?
Just purchased my 2nd tunze, 6060 this time, for a little more flow. I have the unit on a timer that shuts it off when the lights go out for the night and back on at morning. I noticed recently the mechanic for keeping the pump from running backwards does not always work.

I disassembled and cleaned the impeller per your sticky but I'm guessing something is worn.

Can you offer a suggestion has to how to get this pump going again?

Thanks a bunch....great pumps by the way!

Upon further inspection I found a second orange O-ring down in the part of the pump where the impeller fits. This explains why the impeller wasn't seating all the way in.

This seemed to clear up most of the issue. If I put the impeller in and hold my mouth just right it works good.

However I would still like to know what keeps it running forward to pick up a spare.

Thanks

The drive unit should have 2 brake shoes, if it spins backwards they engage and block against the bushing 3000.620. It can spin backwards if the drive unit is the wrong type, it must be 6080.600, 6100.600 or 6100.700 won't work in this type of pump. If a brake shoe is worn or missing it can also spin backwards, the same if the bushing i worn or damaged. An extra oring or anything that would keep the brakes and bushing from lining up correctly can also be a culprit.
