6080 Drive Unit Problems

I purchased my 6080 in August of 2005. In February of 2006 I got the oppertunity to relocated to South florida so I packed everything up. I did clean my pumps and powheads b/c I knew it would be a while before they'd get used again.
I pulled out the 6080 todayand put it in my tank and turned it on. It pumped water for like 3 seconds then stopped blowing. The motor was still going. It didn't sound any different.
I took the pump out and spun the prop and all seemed fine. Well when I pulled the Drive unit out. Bingo, the propeller area was seperated from the magnet (3a-3d were connected. 3f was one piece). 3e was not in the pump. I looked in the box and in the bottom of the tank but couldn't find the brake shoes. (yes I have water in the tank). I don't see any wear on the drive unit.

So is the brake shoe what holds the Drive unit together?
How do you think it came out?
You think replacing the brake is it or will i need a to replace the whole unit.

Normally the cause in cases like this is that salt and calcium crusted things together in storage and the brakes snapped from the start up jolt. The brakes are likely all you need, they hold the shaft on.
