60g Cube Build

I bought a 60 cube 24"x24"x24" to fit the space needed in my Apt. The tank has three holes drilled in the bottom and my plan was to add a "fake wall" overflow 4" from the back of the cube. I am building a stand with an inside of 24 sq. also. I figure that will allow me to use 24" tanks for sumps/fuges.

I have a piece of glass that I can use but IO would prefer something that is not clear so alge does not grow in the overflow area. If I shouldn't paint the glass should replace the glass with black acrylic or find some stick on vinyl for the glass I have? Also, does anyone know where in Dallas or DFW These things can be found?

I picked up a 1/8" sheet of black acrylic from Allied plastics to sit flush against the overflow glass. Once all the algae grows I will be able to remove it.

After my test fit, it seems the glass shop didn't quite understand what I told them. The plate of glass for the over flow should be 1/4 from the top of the aquarium lip, not 1/4 inch below the entire aquarium trim. See Pics.

That brings me to a few other questions. I have never siliconed aquarium glass/baffles/overflows. Can I attach the sides, remove the scap wood from below the glass then fill that 3/4" gap to the bottom with the silicone, or does the glass have to be flush?
Does anyone have a link to a good how to for the silicone process? Is the aquarium silicone from the local box hardware store ok?
