6101 motor block

Hi, I'm pretty sure I need a new motor block for one of my 6101's. it has stopped running. Gave it a good cleaning but nothing. Plugged it into the power supply running my other one to be sure it was not that. The block does not seem to be powering up at all. I just want to confirm that the 6105 block is the right one and that the existing screen cowl from my 6101 will work with that.

Thanks for the help.

Your best option is to get our 6101 Upgrade Kit that can be purchased here. This will give you a new 6105 pump which you will use with your existing power supply and existing magnet holder. The cowls on the 6101 and 6105 are different and so are not interchangeable.

And just so you know, the picture of the pump in that link above is not correct. You will receive a 6105 which is the newest style of Stream pump, so it will look and function like this. The upgrade kit comes with an adapter so that you can use your existing magnet mount. You'll save a fair amount of money by reusing that and your power supply.

Thank you and let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply Craig. I just ordered 2of the kits. I'll convert the other 6101 while I'm at it.

Hi Craig - One of the units does not seem to be working properly over the last few weeks. I've swapped the plugs and it does not seem to have any effect. The pump will cease to operate intermittently. It does not restart on its own and you basically need to jostle the power supply connection into the speed controller to get it to restart. It then runs for some period of time (less than a day) and stops again. Any ideas?

My guess would be either the power connection is loose (this is easily adjusted) if so it will fall out easily. Or, the drive unit is tight fitting on the shaft and this is common when new, they will then struggle to spin at lower speeds. This generally works itself out as the parts seat in over the first couple weeks. You might also try swapping the drive units between pumps (prop and magnet) and see if it follows a drive unit, this itself may solve the issue since their are small variations in shafts and the bore in the magnet. Also, be sure that you don't have the pump potentiometers turned down if you are using a controller. The pot on the junction box is only to be used when no controller is used. If you did not adjust it, it will be at full power.

Roger - Thanks for the response, I'll try swapping the drive units. I've had them running since January, so I don't think it is a case of it suddenly binding up. I have them both set to full power (speed) and they are no longer connected to a controller since it ceased working a few months ago. How does one adjust the power connection? It does not appear loose, but when you "jiggle it" the pump starts again no problem.

Usually after 6 months the pumps will lock up from calcium, so this could also be a cause, they generally need to be stripped down and cleaned every 4-6 months. For the power, can you PM me your email address and I will email the photo? You also want to check that both the male and female ends of the power connection are free of corrosion which will generally be green in color.
