6101 shaft covered in black powder?

I have a brand new Tunze 6101 that I bought to go with my other 6101. I plugged it in today and it was making a vibrating noise so I took it apart to see if there was anything in it causing the vibrations. When i pulled out the shaft it was covered in a black powder almost like soot. I put it in the sink and filled it with water and the water took on a black stain very quickly. I never had this happen with my other pump so I was wondering what this was and if it is normal? I have to wash my hands pretty diligently to get the stain off as there was plenty of this stuff on them.

That is odd, do you have any pictures? The plastic is graphite reinforced nylon, perhaps in the molding process some graphite dust coated the parts but I have no other explanation.

I can try to take some pics this weekend. Not sure how much of the powder is still on them as I tried to give them a good warm water scrub. I'll get back to you this weekend!
