6105 Differences

I have an older 6105, about 1 1/2 years old. It has the black impeller. It came with both a 12v and 18v jumper for the power supply. Seems like I remember something about different sized impellers running at the different voltages, and there were some changes, but I can't remember why I've been running for this long using the 12v jumper. Is it safe to use with the 18v jumper with the impeller that I have?

My newer 6105 has the blue impeller and has been running at 18v. The newer one has been overpowering the older one, as far as a back and forth flow, using opposite high/low pulsing.

Until February 2009 the 6105 had a 42mm prop(black) and used 15V for lower flow or 24V for full power. We then switched to 45mm and 12 and 18V respectively. In August 2010 we changed the drive unit again, the shaft is now pure titanium (grade 2) instead of an alloy known as 316ti. The disk under the drive unit had a rubber disk added to reduce vibration and start up clicking. The new blue prop is actually 46mm, the back props were model boat props we were buying and modifying, the blue ones we make ourselves, this gave us a bit more freedom with size, but the extra mm is only equal to about 100-150gph. I would think if you see a big difference the prop may be an older 42mm, it may be damaged or it may be sticking to the shaft and drag is slowing it down, it must spin freely on the shaft.

Thanks for the explanation. I must have the second iteration with the 45mm prop for 12v/18v. I'll switch the power supply to 18v and see if that matches up closer to the newer version.

Maybe what I remember is people trying to use the 45mm props at 24v and running into problems.
