6105 Questions

I have 3 6105s purchased around the end of 2008. I have the new Blue propellers installed. I have 2 new flat power supplies and one older larger power supply. If I run them all with the 18v jumper no problem. If I insert the 24v jumper they spin for a second and then stop. I just cleaned them all.

EDIT: The 24v jumpers are OK with the flat power supplies. It fails with the larger power supply.

Advice?

Are you sure the jumper for the larger power supply is correct? They use different jumpers, the 6101.242 jumper has longer pins, it won't make good contact if it is the jumper of the 6105 and a 6101.242 jumper in the 6105 is dangerous because the pins will be partially exposed so a shock is possible.

I suspect one of the following possibilities-

1) The drive unit is partially seized, be sure you can remove the magnet and prop from the shaft, that the magnet and prop are completely free to spin on the shaft. If these are binding, the unit drags the shaft and will use more power than the power supply can provide safely, so it shuts down. At 18V the wattage is reduced so it may still work, but long term this will harm the pump and burn out the power supply.

2) The power supply is simply old and nearing the end, they are a consumable with a roughly 3-4 year expected service life. This type of power supply was discontinued in 02/10, though some persisted in inventories until mid 2010, they would generally have seen at least 3 years of use by now.

Roger, thanks. The magnet and prop are smooth as silk. I just gave the pumps a good 24hr soaking in vinegar, so all is well at that front.

It must be age. Thx.....I will pick up a new one at Tunze.com. Does it come with the array of jumpers?
