6105 stream pump makes humming noise

I just purchased a new 6105 stream pump with the multicontroller. The pump makes a loud humming noise when it is set to 40% or > output. I purchased it new and have been running it for several days. Is there a break-in period for these pumps? If so, how long before the noise goes away. Is there any type of special procedure I should be doing to break this pump in? I am new to reef keeping and appreciate any insights you may have.

It will generally take a couple of weeks for the pump to quiet down. Just run your pump as you would normally. If after a few weeks you are still getting a loud humming out of the pump let us know.

I recently purchased 2 6105's and 7095. One of the pumps was noticeably louder, the other was quite. After a few days of run time both pumps are silent now.

Don't you hear any resonans from the glass at all??

My two tunze 6100 are a bit loud and they have run for over a year now with the controller. Can anyone help ?

When I removed the propeller for a few weeks ago, I could see that there was a small rubber ring at the end of one of the pumps, but at the other one it was missing. But they are making the same noise :(

My 6105s have four small rubber feet on both magnets. The rubber feet absorb almost all of the sound. If I put my ear close to the magnet I can hear a slight hum at 80% or higher speeds. This in inaudible unless I am very close to the magnets.

I just got my second 6105, so I have two now. The hum goes way down after they operate a while.

I think a large part of that hum is the fact that if you look at the 6101 and mag mount, there is only the one small attachment point between the pump and the mag mount, and as a result not much transferrance of noise to the aquarium glass thru the mag mount.

There is a lot more contact between the 6105 and the holder clip and the magnets on this setup, so I think more transfer of resonance in the tank glass the 6105 is attached to.

I have to put my ear right up to the outside mag mount on my 6105 to hear it.

The 6105 feels quite a bit more powerful that the 6101 it replaces as well, much more than the 200 or so gallons/hour more it is supposed to flow. That is a good thing!:D I had a 6105 on one side of my 210 and a 6101 on the other until my dealer completed my order, and the 6105 seemed to flow a lot more water than the 6101.

Thanks for the reassurance. I have been running it for a little more than a week now and I can still hear the hum at 80% or higher, 10 to 15 feet away from my tank. Originally I did not see the little rubber feet in the box when I installed the pump. That seemed to help after I put them on, but it’s not to the point yet where I can only hear if I put my ear close to the magnet. I will be a little more patient for a while

Where can I buy 6105 now?

Where can I buy 6105 now?

Can anyone recommend where I can buy the 6105's, I am here in SOCAL and cannot find anywhere, even online.

Let me know please,

Thank you

Hello,

To limit noise of the 6105, the first days, i have built a ring with tube (for pump air). I fixe the pump with another magnet like you can see on pictures. I hope it's temporarily.

Anyone that has had loud pumps, have they quieted down? About how long did they take?

I have 2 6105's that have been running at 100% for several days, and both have a very loud humming. Even turned akk the way down they can be heard 20' away.

If your 6105 hums loud..sounds weird..but it worked.

If your 6105 hums loud..sounds weird..but it worked.

My second 6105 made a loud hum when I first got it a couple weeks ago..louder than my first did. Playing around, I held the inner mag mount in place, and turned the outside dry magnet mount 180 degrees (1/2 circle).. and it quieted the pump a lot. It then quieted down like the first one did, within a couple weeks.

Don't know why it worked..but it did!:eek2:

I tried swapping impellers, and it helped one of them quite a bit. I'll give them another week or so and see what they do.

Other than the early noise, are the 6105s Tunze quality?

I'm waiting on some from my LFS.

Yes. I am very happy with the build and look of them. They are very powerful and sit well inside the bracket.

I'm surprised to hear they flow more than the 6101's. Is that for sure or just wishful thinking?
