6205 Re-aiming Itself

I recently purchased a 6205 and when first unpacked it I noticed that the grip of the bracket on the pump was very loose and wondered if it would be sufficient to hold the pump against its own exhaust power.

This has proved to be the a valid concern and at anything approaching 1/2 power it re-aims itself as shown in the diagram. I have noted elsewhere in this forum a recommendation to squeeze the clamp to make it grip tighter but is seems the two most likely outcomes are it just springing back or it breaking and leaving me with a pump just mounted on its cord.

I have found a temporary solution (at least for up to 3/4 power) by jamming a rubber plumbing washer in the back of the bracket behind the pump (see bottom picture).

When I did this I noticed a hole in the back of the bracket that looks like it could have been intended for some rubber stopper, which could have done the same job as the washer.

Should the 6205 have come with a bit of rubber in that hole? I can't see anything on the spare parts list so perhaps not.

I am rather loath to try to bend the bracket as if it breaks I could be weeks without any way to hold the pump at all. Is this bracket faulty in that they normal hold the pump tightly as is?

Thanks,

Steve

This hole is only a remnant of the molding process. The plastic is extremely springy and difficult to break, you can virtually bend it so the two open ends touch and it won't break. All that is required is to bend it in, they are supposed to check and correct for this at the factory by checking it against a template and bending it in as needed but exposure to heat can cause it to bend back. Please try it, the clamps are very hard to break. We use a very high quality BASF polyamide to make this part.

Thanks, that fix seems to have worked. Running at 100% for last week and holding in position OK.

Is the plastic likely to gradually migrate back to where it was or should this be a permanent fix?

It can stretch back out, but this will happen from removing and inserting the pump and not just in normal use, you should be able to detect it when you reinstall the pump after cleaning and correct it the same way.
