Substitute rotifers for clowns

I am looking to maybe doing some clownfish breeding but I am worried about culturing rotifers and thus greenwater for I really dont have the space(college kid in a small apt with 5 tanks in a 10x12 bedroom). I have been doing some reading but I was wondering if there were quality substitutes for live rotifers for clown fry. I have seen Azoo's artifical Rots and H*(something... i cant spell it but i have their other frozen products in my freezer and I dont feel like moving )frozen rot on DrFS and wasnt sure if these were truely good products or acceptible substiutes for g a high percentage of clownfry. Can anyone assist me on this or are there easier ways of feeding clown fry. Thanks and any tips for clown reeding is appreaciated!

Others have tried and all have pretty much failed, there really is no substitute for rots. The greenwater on the other hand there is a substitute (couple actually). Those of us whom are pressed for space/time/knowledge (that would be me) us Instant Algae.

i just bought that stuff too, i will tell you about my experience with the fry in about 5-6 days........since it is written in chinese on the label i cant be sure of what is in it!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i will say that there is something that works very well for me anyways. ISO artificial rotifers worked for me many times only catch is you need to siphon the bottom everyday. After 2 days start feeding newly hatched brine shrimp and you should be good for 21 days then feed cyclopeez.
good luck..................That was everything in a nut shell you will need to be dedicated to accomplish your goals it will not be easy.

Michael, did you mean to type OSI artificial rotifers? OSI has 4 micro foods listed in the AES catalog, they all sound pretty much the same to me, why 4 of them? I was planning to try one but waiting to figure out which

Ok, thanks for the info, Im still a bit away from purchasing my new clowns. I had an old mated pair which breed regualrly but I never raise any of the fry. I only watched and let my other animals feast....morbid I know but I didnt have the right breeding tanks set up. The female jumped and died a few months ago when I was out of own. But I looking towards brighter futures. I will check out OSI.

the babies are born as we speak, i am feeding them on artificial rotifers right away and will tell you how it is going, i am at my first try at raising the babies, it is the 10th nest, hope i get it right.........

the fry is eating a little bit of the artificial rotifers, but prefer the frozen ones........... will see in a few days if they go on......

alright thanks for the info, my osi artifical rots came in today. It is a really big tin and I am wondering if I could alsouse the artirots for my sps and other corals?

melissa: goodluck with your clowns! How many hatched and how many are surviving? Also, what type of clowns do you have?
Thanks for the info!

occellaris, about half of the nest hatched, lets say about 75 babies, next morning around 10 were still alive and tonight lucky 2 still swimming, a lot got caught in the aquaclear i put in the tank ( big mistake) i saw them getting stuck.......... but remember, first try at raising the fry!!!! i will start a rotifer culture as soon as i can find cysts or live startup culture, not much around here, the clowns are already on their next nest so i am not worried about that.......... good luck to you too.........

thanks and sorry to hear about the aquaclear. Well you are still one brood ahead of me, I dont even have my clown pair yet... they are going to be my next paycheck...haha Well goodluck with you final two, lets hope they make it.

Oh, also let me know how the rot cultures go too, although I dont have the space for it, i might have to convince my roomates to allow me to have a small corner of the living room as a culture center. lata

just do that on the top shelf of your closet!!! space management 101......... the last two were not to be seen this morning........... oh well......... lets wait for the next one.......... when i bought my pair, it took them 6 months to lay their first nest, i am going to get two more pairs next month..... more chance with 3 pairs........

no, really, my closet is packed, I have pull boxes out of it just to get to me clothes. i have my dirty clothes hamper on top of my aquarium surplus box.... The other drawback is that I dont have the outlet space either and my circutbreaker is already stressed. I dont have enough shelf space for my text books so I keep them in the car. I dont need to take space management 101, I need space creation 801

Well it's easy to see part of your space crisis:

rebuilding my sps collection. frag donations welcome...

Get rid of the sticks and you will more room for more important things. :D

keeping the sticks keeps me sane and my tank under control. If I didnt have them I would overstock so quickly. Really the clowns are a side venture...muhhaha
