So here I am and I have decided to try something different with my reef keeping.. I was talking with JW one after noon about growth and SPS.
We talked about the layer that forms on corals when the lights go out and how when the lights turn back on that layer becomes hard to form a calcium layer. I did a lot of reading to make sure that I understood what I was talking about.
So to get to it anyway here is what I ended up doing. JW stated that he did this before and had success with it. I set up my lights to run 6hrs on and 6hrs off. This is odd I know but the lights turn on at 5 am and turn off at 11 am. They then turn on again at 5 pm and off again at 11 pm. By doing this I am attempting to create those calcium layers 2x’s a day.

Here is a full tank shot for reference.
I started all of this on July 20th, 2008
These are first photos on the start date.

Now before I go to much farther I am not the best photographer but the pictures will tell the story of the growth. The first 9 days and we are off.

Now I wanted to take pictures every week but work did not allow.

Now during all of this I have tested and tested the water to keep the levels high. Some may ask why keep the levels high. Well the corals are using the supplements faster. Now I am not the best at this but getting much better.
- Mag average â€"œ 1397
- dKH â€"œ 8.8
- Calc â€"œ 424
These could have been much better if there wasn’t a vacation in the middle of all of this that I went on. Had to come back from that when I got back had someone come to dose but as we all know. No one does it as well as we think we do.
Well this is where I am as of know and will continue to add pictures and updates.
