the one in the background by the other entrance.. i think thats left over from a molt a while ago
I think he is talking about the left dactyl... the one that is still attached. It seems to be disjointed and doesn't line up straight and close right. The other dactyl seems to be fine though. I have seen my mantis open up its dactyl but it comes straight out and closes back straight.
Also, I think that Jake might be a she. The last pic is where you should see the gonopods but I can't make any out.

Yes, the left dactyl doesnt seem to close in tighly like mine. It also looks significantly more curved than mine as well. I didnt even realize they could open those up like a blade until a collected his molted dactlys out of the tank, and examined them. Very interesting little appendages of death and destruction.... It looks as if he wanted, if could be used to gut and filet a poor little fishy in his death grasp. I watched very intently when I first got mine, i gave him a goldfish (only one ever) and he grabbed it and held if for over twenty minutes! Finally he used something to slice it up the belly (from my angle) i guess it could have been a disengaged dactyl, and then sucked up the gooey insides!.... I dont feed mine fish, so I havent been able to observe those interactions again, now he gets to battle with gladiator crawfish
