72 Gallon Bowfront Stand....HELP!!

Ok so I'm back to the hobby and I have an Oceanic 72 Gallon Bowfront with stand and canopy. I'm having a REALLY hard time figuring out what to do about adding a refugium sump in my stand. The stand in question is a single front glass door model. Not the two from door stand. I want to utilize a substantially sized refugium sump and haven't found anything that I can jimmy in through the space available. I'm debating building a DIY acrylic sump with the dimensions as follows. 40"L x 11"W x 18"H. I just can't figure out a way to jimmy it in. Has anyone had this style stand and what did you do to accommodate a decent sump?? Dismantle partially? Specific brand sump? Or just scrap the damn thing?? I'm pretty close to the latter....HELP!!

Can u take the back off?

Maybe taking the top off will be an option?
Check uder the stand if the top is attached with pocket hole screws you can remove it. In any case I believe the top is MDF, might as well replace it with wood.

Back has an opening but not big enough to wedge anything significant in.

Anything I try to take apart has been also glued on. Seems like quite an undertaking

That's the problem with cheap stands. Glue and staples hold them together. Don't get me wrong it looks nice.

Following and some thoughts on building a stand.

I am in process with similar setup of building a stand from scratch. Its a corner style tank and stand, so I am somewhat limited in width going from front to back (as it nears the wall corners). I am putting together an idea for building a substructure to support the stand with a curved front but maintain a boxed in undercarriage. Plan on using a 2 x 6 header around the top with a 3/4" sheet on top, bottom in a design similar to Rocket's just with a trapezoid style shape. Use a fascia for front in a curved style with large centered door (possibly just removable VS hinged)

Tank on stand measures 48" across. At the depth of tank/stand (24") the width is 28". I am sure I can fit a 29 gallon and possible a 40 breeder in there.

cut a hole in the side and slides in and replace the end

Glued... hammer it off?
I think if you cut the side/s the opening is only so wide at both ends that will not allow room to pass a tank thru there.
I say top off. you can use a jig saw to cut an inner perimeter and then wiggle the rest of the top off. Might need a sharp chisel to lift it but can be achieved.

Hey guys,

thanks for all the input. I'm debating trying to separate the top section depending on how messy it would be to replace it. Seems to be the least dangerous as far as ruining the stands sturdiness. The other option might be to cut out a section of the back wall back enough to slide the sump in through the back and replace the removed section with support tabs to keep in place. this will allow me to remove the sump in the future. I will advise as to my final action and post pics. Thanks again guys!!
