75 gallon dilemma

Checking to see if this is still available.

Looks really nice and has everything I want.

It says it comes with rocks(usually not live rock), a skimmer(tossup on if it's any good or not, but compared to a ER 8-2, that would be a hard battle to win), and a wet-dry that you'd likely have to convert to keep it from turning into a nitrate sink. So, you'd still need to get live rock, sand, presumably a skimmer, and you could always turn the wet-dry into a sump/fuge. And, it's not reef ready. So, you maybe looking at another few hundred bucks to get it where you want it.
Just some things to consider. Good luck

Just got a call from a friend of mine who is selling his Oceanic 125 w/ Stand and canopy. I drilled it myself and installed the overflow box on the end so it can be against a back wall. He's also offering a Euro Reef 8-2 (I think) with new needlewheel. You can get everything including tons of florida LR (some hair algea). VHO bulbs are 1 month old... 600 obo.

Did some more research, it's a 6-2 not an 8-2 but either way it's rated to skim a 125 no problem. :) Only thing this setup needs is a sump and return pump (current one is mine on loan)... He has tons of extras, this is by far the best all in one deal you're gonna find...

Tank retails for 350.00 which has already been drilled and calfo overflow box installed. IceCap 660 running 3 5' VHO's (bulbs are nearly new) Canopy 150.00, Stand 280.00, Skimmer 330.00, Live Rock even at only 3/lb 300.00, Sand can be used if you like 80.00, powerheads, heaters, misc...

Yea I agree there is still work to do to that "55" (its a 60 BTW). I would jump on the set up from Calvin's friend.

Just what is a Calfo overflow box?

Here's an example of a Calfo oveflow box... It's an overflow mounted on the inside and drilled through the side instead of the bottom...

Here's a picture of Murphs 125 that we did the same thing to, you can see the box in the upper right corner...

(Hope you don't mind me posting this murph)

Here's the overflow box out of the tank.

It is not very tall, do you still make a durso standpipe with this type of overflow? also is'nt that full length overflow the way calfo is suggesting they be done now? To skim the entire surface off? I dont think its really needed if you have strong flow, but I thought I heard thats what he likes now.

Doesn't need to be tall, that's the beauty of it. You get your entire footprint and the benefit of surface skimming. I'm sure Calfo suggests maximum surface skimming but I agree with you Chris.

Here's a diagram for plumbing...

I'm running this design on a few tanks without the durso and they a surprisingly quiet, of a course in a home they may be very loud with out it.

You could have at least used the "finished" pix LOL, no I don't mind!

In my best Cartman voice. "Oh sweet."

Thats the way I want to do the overflows in my75 when I finally get started on that project. I had no idea that was what Calfo was pushing. I think I will skip the Coast-to-coast aspect though. Then place some Chili Coral right underneath.

:-( None yet, we are going to wait until we find the tank that we really want. Still looking but have backed off a bit. We want to stay in the 75 gallon range for now and don't want someone else's problem. I saw a setup that had an HOB overflow but didn't like the fact that it has to be primed....I really want a reef ready with great lights.

I am willing to wait, but you know I got so excited about having a bigger tank that I was almost willing to settle.

I'll let you guys know when I find the right one.
