Currently stocked with:

1 Starry Blenny - Adult
1 LaMark's Angel - Juv. about 2 inches
1 Yellow Coris Wrasse - 4 inches
1 Matted File Fish (temporary)
2x black percula clowns (pair)
1x Orange Banded Goby fully grown

40 Gallon sump with a Reef Octopus Protein Skimmer

What would you suggest doing when the LaMark's Angel begins to increase in size and nitrates slowly go up? I want to increase the size of my aquarium, but as a college student budgets are tight. I kept the LaMark's in quarantine for around five weeks until it began eating pellets often. I have been researching somewhat because I love large angels but also love corals and couldn't pass up the price of $25.99 for this fish. I only have about 5' of space to upgrade in the future, any tank size suggestions within that length?

I wouldn't expect your nitrates to shoot up too much when the lamarks gets a little bigger if its a nice octopus skimmer it should be able to handle the bioload. I'd just be more worried about him getting too large for a 75. If I remember right they do grow slower, so he should be good in there for a while. As far as upgrades in a 5' section maybe a 120? It's a pretty well rounded tank size.

Although I think a 75 is too small for an adult Lamarks; if just the growth from one fish pushes nitrate up, something is out of whack. Our friendly bacteria multiply as needed, within limits, of course.

Ah ok so right now I may stay put with my 75 as the LaMark's is only around two inches. Nitrates are zero if not close to that I just wasn't sure about nitrate issues that could appear in the future. Would a 5' 120 provide efficient swimming area for an adult LaMarks in the future when it begins to grow into the six to eight inch size?

Forgive me if I am wrong but Genicanthus lamarck can grow fairly large to almost 9" in length. They also like to chase smaller fishes than them, so the larger the tank the better to give it room to swim comfortably and for smaller fishes to have hiding places. 120g would almost be considered bare minimum when it gets to its max size.
