75 Gallon Setup

Hey guys, I'm starting off a 75 gallon mixed reef setup. I have a few questions:
What lighting should i get?
What equipment should i get?
What do i use to regulate flow? I'm running a 800gph Eshopps Overflow Box and Mag 9.5 Return pump and my return starts running dry. Would a Ball Valve work?

Excited to get this thing up and running, currently up with just tap water for tests.

What's your budget, and what do you want to keep?

You could, or you could tee off the return, and use a ball valve to send some of the water back to the sump.

Really though, I would consider a different pump. A mag 9.5 is a little on the large size for a 75g IMO, and they are loud, inefficient pumps.

Well right now for lighting i have a Radion Xr15W Pro, i might go for another since i loved the results of this light. I might just use a ball valve, some people even recommended me to go with a Mag 12 for my size overflow and aquarium! Crazy.

I like slower flow through the sump. I do my water changes from the sump, so slower flow allows me to remove accumulated detritus, and slower flow allows my skimmer more time to handle more water.

FWIW, I had a Mag 3 on my old 75g. Probably a little on the small side, but it worked. A Mag 5 would be perfect for that sized tank.

What do you have for flow 'in' your tank? If not much at this point, using the Mag as a return to a couple of different locations will provide necessary flow and will also choke down the 9.5, if that is your ultimate goal.

I personally use gate valves over ball valves because they give you better control and finer precision. However, the gate valve is a little more expensive than a ball valve. Good luck!
