OMG man!!!! I had to turn the aquabee pump off for 2-3 days. I left the feed pump on. I slowlly opened the airvalve starting yesterday. I just was able to open the air valve all the way today.

I know Marine Depot sell larger tubes of Zap gel...never used it though. I just buy several packages that contain 2 tubes of the gel....this way, I dont have to worry about losing as much glue if the nozzle seals up before I use it all.

Question about your Deltec Skimmer....
I'm in the early stages of planning a 120 gallon tank, with a target total volume of 250 gallons. Will be primarily SPS with some clams, and possibly an anemone....moderate load of fish...
Do you feel that the APF600 is correctly rated as it is? A comparable Re-circ skimmer from ER will cost $200.00 more, and I dont quite trust ER's skimmer ratings.

$200 is nothing in the grand cost of this tank, but for the same cost of the ER recirc skimmer, I can get the AP701. You've used both Deltec and ER, is the Deltec better in your opinion? Why or why not?

Nick

IMO

Well how is the combined water volume going to be so large? Very big sump? Frag Tank?

I sized this APF600 with a 120gal tank and sump in mind. That will be my future setup.

Also read up on the main differences between the AP701 and
AP851. I believe I was reading somewhere one is harder to dial in because of its size? Not sure I will read up on it more for you.

MaxxII you think like me:) 200.00$ isn't alot in the big picture when your dealing with 2 skimmers that are both costly.

ER

ER has since redesigned there skimmer line. I won't go into details but they borrowed some designs from another skimmer company. Has this improved performance? Yes, to some degree.

If you do decide to lean more towards ER then look into ASMs

IMO the Deltecs have a very good Water Volume rating.

Do I think Deltec skimmers are better then ER's??

Well on customer care/Support Deltec destroys ER!!! I mean no comparison.

"WHY is Support so important when the odds of your skimmer breaking are so low?"

Listen to me!!!! Support is on the top of my list now. I have learned that ERs support is there Achilles heal of there whole company. Flat out there support sucks! And they know it.

When you buy a Deltec your buying 1 on 1 support with Doug from Deltec.

Do I think H&S and Deltec are the same?

Almost identical.

Performance wise?

I can only tell you on my tank the ER that I had "PRE Mod" would have days where no foam would form on the top of the cup. The ER was more noisy.

My Deltec has more skimmate in 1 day with NO FISH then my ER would pull in 2-3 days.

If your going to look at Deltecs look into H&S also.

If your looking into ERs look into ASMs

Arconom,
Yes, the sydtem volume will be so large due to frag tank and large sump. I want a nice big settling area for detritus in the sump, and I'd like to be able to do more than a 20% water change just by empyting the sump, (if need be). I suspect total volume will be less than 250, but not by much.

I've got an ER right now, CS6-2 for my 58, and it "feels" a bit undersized for my tank, (75 gallons total).

I hadn't considered H&S skimmers....who is a reputable dealer for those?

Thanks for the quick answers,

Nick

I've got practically the same bioload you do, and this skimmer is always pulling stuff out.....I havent run anything else on the tank at the same time to compare it to, but its just my impression.

If they'd had the ER recircs like you've got Eric, I'd have bought one of them.

Like I said, I'm still in the planning stages, and trying to figure things out...
How do the H&S skimmers compare to Deltecs?

Thanks for the link BTW Arconom.

Nick

Maybe look into the new Recirc ERs if there better priced for you.

As far as Deltec and H&S with both of there quality being so good it becomes more of a preference based on small differences other then good skimmate quality and quantity.

Such as the way the Cup comes off. There construction materials. Air valve adjustment. There both proven skimmers. You nit pick.

Basically when you have these 2 skimmers the Deltec and H&S it might be a small reason that makes you like one over the other.

maxx - i still don't see how your tank is truely pushing that 6-2+. hmm..i just don't see it from me running a comperable reefmania.net skimmer and the RC80. i don't think that my tank push them much at all.

Arconom,
1st I want to apologize for hijacking your thread. I only asked because I saw you had a Deltec APF600, which is what I had considered for my upcoming system, and I knew you had used ER in the past.

Just out of curiosity, what are you planning on your total system volume being?

Eric,
I have a CS6-2, not a CS6-2+
Your Recirc skimmers are more effecient at waste removal than my standard ER. I feel there are some issues at play in my tank keeping things from taking off as I would like. These are areas I'm trying to address when planning the next system.

Sindjan and asnatlas,
Glad you like it! I get to meet some of the most interesting people in my line of work.

maxxII

No need to apoloize:) This thread is my little piece of RC and most here on this thread know I love skimmers.

I don't talk about skimmers alot since it's a touchy situation with most. But all of the people who contribute to this thread are awesome when it comes to discussions!!!

Ok back to your question.

Total water volume with my future 120gal and big sump. I would say almost identical as you... I'm dead serious. I want to incorporate a small Prop tank in the future with the 120 tank and sump.

I will be pushing my skimmer but don't forget I don't have this tank for fish. In my 120 I will have about 5-6 fish.

Will you be able to handle the 250 gallons with the APF600 Yes. Heavy loaded Yes.

Will I upgrade to a bigger model Deltec when I hit those numbers with water volume,,,,,,,Maybe, I love to have a skimmer bigger then what I need.

If I were you I would get the APF600. If you have the money to spend then get the AP851.
