I used epoxy to secure the rods in the holes but I really didn't need to. They were so snug to begin with. To cut the Rod I used the same miter saw as the one I used to cut the PVC. Just make sure the blade has alot of teeth.

The water was so dirty because when I put in the first few rocks I forgot to rinse them off again after drilling them. The drilling makes a syrupy mud out of the hole in the rock.

Looking good acro. I may have missed it, but where did you get the rod? I think I will do the same with my rock once its ready.

Also, how long can the liverock be out of water before bacterial dieoff begins?

It's great that you asked that. I was wondering myself. It was a race against time getting the rock drilled and putting them back in the water. But I never knew how long I had until die off would take place. I would say some rocks were out of the water for 1 hour or longer. I tried to minimize this by sorting out the rock in different bins by size. This way I wouldn't have lay them all out on plastic and have them subjected to air for to long.

The rod I bought from USplastics.com. I bought the cast acrylic rod. I also bought the extruded one which I didn't use because I had enough of the cast. IMO they both will work Extruded or Cast.

I started to test the water today

Nitrite-0

Nitrate is 2.5 on a redsea test. Whats the diff between the Low and high range on the chart?

Hey it was the only thing I could find at petsmart:( I bought the whole marina kit. I will eventually buy a better Nitrate kit. But I used to use this for my basic tests.

I plan on getting my corals as soon as I can:)

I think I should dose Bionic now. I want the tank ready for my corals.

I will use B-ionic to get my levels up and then turn my kalkreactor on.

In the beginning I will keep my calcium reactor off. I'm not sure yet

awesome thread, arconom!! in the designing of my future tank, you have saved me a tremendous amount of trouble and the asking of many questions. great work. looking forward to your tank's progress. too bad we're not closer or i'd pop by and pick your brain :D i figure about a 3 hour drive to your place from here. later,

ben

looking good man...

I hosted the local Reef Club meeting last weekend... I think Poor arconom(Erik) nearly wet himself after seeing his corals for the first time in months... no worries bro the way this build is going you'll have them back in no time...

how did that Mag 7 work out?

Well today was eventful.

After putting my Dart on the tank and starting it up 4 Bulkheads began to leak. So I said the heck with it for now lets go to Lowes to my Bro-inlaw

Today was intended to setup my light system with a rail used for closet doors. So off me and my Bro-inlaw went to Lowes. We found everything we needed.

I knew after leaving my house that I had a big problem. Sure enough I did. My bro-inlaw and I tried to fix the same pain in the neck Bulkhead from leaking but it didn't work.

Take note I have all of my liverock in my tank.

So we tried for hours. Finally I gave in and said no more:( I took all of my liverock out and we drained it. Then we tried again after flipping the gasket again. We tried all different combinations favoring different sides of the hole but no luck.

This hole is is one of 3 others that was leaking but this one was at the bottom of the tank so you see why this one was the most important. I would deal with the others later.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Alot of the things went on in my head.

1. I'm to close to being done
2. I have spent enough time away from my family setting this tank up
3. I want it over with.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I had a big decision to make. One that may haunt me down the road with this tank. But I have to remember this isn't my dream tank,it isn't permanent. It only has to last about a year.

So I began to think about a very controversial thing on RC. One that I know IMO should not be done.:(

Silicone.! I had to do it guys. The spending of money has to stop. I have tried all my spare bulkheads and gaskets. So I did it. I put a small bead on the inside and outside. On both of the bottom returns.

It was a sad day having to take out all of my liverock after I set it all up. I had to do it.

I know ROFL. Hey I havent lived here that long. It hasn't even been a year. You should have seen the first few months when I was asked what my telephone number was.

Well my skimmer is up and running again. There seems to be a issue with a sort of surging effect of the water level/foam.

If I set the skimmer at a certain level it will stay there for 20-30 seconds then drop 1-2" I guess some call this surging/burping. I never had this problem before.

Something like a flushing effect?

I might in a few months I would have to setup my plumbing differently.

Well today after checking on my skimmer it stopped doing that surge thing. I'm happy about that. I guess it had to do with a combination of things. Low temperature?Salinity? I had to make up a new batch of salt water yesterday. The tank temp was at 71 for a few hours.

Heck no there yours! I just want some frags:)

On a side note is this weekend ok to pick a few frags up?

Btw: Tell Marisol I don't want any frags of her coral:)

I have a bachelor party for my soon to be brother-in-law this weekend in South Carolina... :bum: and have left Sr. with instructions to shoot all Frag wranglers on sight and ask questions later... :D :eek1:

give me a call next week...
