So many times I have built systems with no pics. Well this time I will do that with some pics

Here is a craigslist special. A 75g brand new, broken tore up stand for 50$



Bracing and rebuilding the stand. NOTE I will be using a 40g Breeder as my sump. So I had to redo a lot to make it fit the way I wanted it to.

Now for fun things taping glass for a C2C overflow.

This will help aid me in my messy sillycon job and make it pretty.

Back to painting the stand.
 
In my having fun I skipped a lot of pics woops soo sorry. New to photlogs on this. But the top is made from a couple old pallets I had PLUS a test fit to see how it look.


Back to the C2C done yeaa it looks good too.

Holes like you never seen drilled before. I use rough grit lapping compound and a a wood hole bit and run it backwards.

Them will be trimmed to later be able to have unions on them for other things later.

This is the good part. I wanted to do something special with the return. I wanted it to go through both the C2C and the back. This way I will drill me a small hole to break the siphon and it will drain into the C2C while in operation.
 
Looks crooked but it 100% straight.

No rain so I got to paint more.

it works very well. Just go slow and slowly wobble the bit as it goes through. Once a side goes all the way through the glass go from the other side using the part that made it through first as a starting point. it is messy very messy.
 
Wow! Impressed doesn't even state how this build makes me feel! Astounding work! I will be following your thread closely as I am new and building a 75g of my own! Looking forward to seeing this grow!
One question, how difficult would you rate the making of a coast to coast with an over the top return?
I did build my own sump. Not very pretty, but I believe it is functional as far as compartmentalizing the water.
 
@FishysPlace Very easy. 1-10, I would say a 2. The hardest part was getting the measurements for the glass and getting it cut.( driving in rush hr traffic made me give it a 2 and not a 1) I used it as 4" deep and 3" wide. 47 & 3/8 long. Note I had to sand down the rough spots but fights tight and clean. Drilling the second hole for the return I lined up the glass on the out side and drilled through both pieces at once to make sure it was perfect before silly coning it.
 
I love budget builds. I got my 75g for free and built my stand out of wood i had laying around the garage. Good luck with yours.

So I was asked why I went through both the back glass and the C2C for my return. A couple reasons. FIRST, I wanted to give the C2C a brace. I think a 4"tall by 47" long sheet of glass needed a brace. This acts as a brace for one. Second. I can let the siphon break drain right back into the C2C with out having it spray every where.

I do too. so far I am out 50 for the tank and stand. 10$ in paint. 12$ for the glass. 7$ for a box of deck screws. Every thing else I have had laying around in my boxes and boxes of leftovers from the years of keeping the leftovers.
so $79 so far. I will need another tube of silly con and maybe a few plumbing parts here and there. plus a few sheet of glass for baffles on the sump and 2 pumps. I wont have too much into it till I reef it up than it will get $$$$$ fast due to my taste in livestock.
NOTE: The boxes of spear parts are a priceless addition to keep.
 
ok but insted of using a hurbie i would use a bean systom its much better and its quit and safer

ok i am a bit futher into my build i am almost done with my wallfor the back of my tank and all my center work is done seramic /porsland none panted got in with a fue fokes from gurmeny on that part just working on my pump figurs right now on it
 
I am doing that now. I am debating on a mag 12 or a mag 9.5. I went with the schd 21 thin wall due to this the schd 40 or thick wall has a area of .864 and the thin wall has a area of 1.115. That 25% will give me an increase of 25% more flow. 1 1" will flow 600gpr and the thin wall will about 800gph free flow. Using it as a vacuum or as a suction it will increase. The schd will do about 800-900 and the thin wall will do about 1100-1300. After head loss I should be able to do a mag 12 easy. Here is a link to a youtube as to why I went with 2 instead of 3 on the bean
