The Cap most likely has a air hole drilled in it. It helps break a siphon, and helps quiet the system.

The cap on the full siphon is there so it will be a full siphon. The other cap you drill a hole, you then run and air line to inside the overflow so if the water level gets too it will also turn that into a full siphon.

Here is a picture of what he had for the drain when I bought the tank.

I'm probably going to do almost the same exact thing except slant the drain at a 45 degree angle to get it to the side of my sump with the skimmer. Should I leave the top open like you have it?

I'd put on a cap on it, then drill a small hole in the cap. This is going to quiet it down by alot and not make it a siphon. Also, I was able to get the tank on it's back so I could silicone the overflow in. So it'll look something along the lines of this when it's done.

I think it's safe to say she will be wet soon (LOL!). Anyways put the tank back on it's bottom and the overflow held fine. Also checked to see how level it it is and....It is dead nuts perfect! I have some silicone to clean off but, here's where I'm at.

It might be slightly offcenter but I'm talking less than 1/4" so no biggie. Just need to get the rest ofthe plumbing for the return now.

do you have to put a screen up to keep snails and small fish from going over the overflow im sure this is a dumb ? its a cool looking overflow......hell even with my slotted overflow I find snails in my filter sock.....my snails and crabs in my refugium always climb over my glass partitions

I have the same overflow and snails crawl in, but then right back out there isn't enough room (about 1/4") for them to crawl into the elbows...Looking really good Mike, glad the overflow came out level and she's close to being wet

Are you drilling to fit a standard john guest airline on the Open Channel to make this into a true bean animal overflow? what you have will have equal amount of water flushing on the 1st and 2nd channel. It'll cause some dripping on one or the other and could get noisy.

You don't have to get a standard john guest airline but you should drill the top of the open channel and stick a small hose in it then tie it at the water level of the pvc to "flush" the water down.

The secondary drain is getting drilled for a John Guest fitting, I actually have it it's just to late to pull the drill out. But yeah it's going to be a true bean animal, 1 full siphon, a secondary drain drilled/john guest and a emergency. Btw, these Jebao dc pumps move a decent amount of water.

I saw a WP25 in action the other day and I would say its going to be to much flow for your 75...

It's going to have two wp25s. I guess we'll see. Keep in mind this is going to be a bare bottom sps tank.

WOW! So much flow. Well, the good thing with having two of them is you can put them on a rotating schedule on timers if two at the same time is too much. In our 90 the one WP40 is just crazy powerful if it's on anything over the lowest setting. Wave 2 and the "reef" settings are our favorites, with the dial set to the lowest possible.

One move sand on the other side of the tank but it won't give you a more desirable random flow pattern. Two I think would be best plus you can always use a voltage regulator to reduce their power if needed. Looking good and can't wait to see it wet!
