75g Lurking danger and Leafy Seadragons

Yes George, I couldn't resist. So here are the promised pics! The top pic has a ribbonfish among the kelp. The 2nd pic has anglerfish just to the right of the trumpets and the bottom pic has a dinosaur skull (with saber-tooth tiger teeth) ornament integrated in the rockwork. Each is hopefully subtle but lurking nonetheless! BTW, Guardian the YWG loves to hang out in the skull's mouth.

Ha that’s awesome!

Looks awesome Dawn. What powerheads are you using? You’ve probably posted before but…something, something, old age…why did I come into this room?

The neon trumpets look like there are heads that are going to recover. I do not think any of the hammer colony is going to recover which is sad. It never quite came back from the salinity incident. Also I had 2 small acan frags that look doubtful. Everything else looks good.

The ugly phase started. Hopefully it wont be too bad. With the new glass aquarium being the only source of silica, I am hoping the tank doesn't look bad for too long. In the meantime I am thinking about ordering some macroalgae and a few more cuc. I am feeding my normal heavy food load so I need to watch that nutrients don't get way out of control.

Ha ha, so I did not title this thread 'Lurking danger' for no reason.
So yesterday I was labeling all the electrical cords from the equipment. At one point I heard something arc-ing and smelled that burnt electrical smell! I immediately turned off both surge protectors. I got out an extension cord (which was plugged into a different outlet) and proceeded to plug each piece of equipment into the extension cord. I was looking for any signs that the electrical component of any particular piece of equipment was compromised. I went thru them all and they all worked, or so I thought. So I labeled them and plugged them in.

This morning I decided to increase the flow from my Carefree Fish wavemaker. However when I pressed the mode button nothing happened. In fact when I pressed any of the buttons nothing happened. The led lights up but the function is frozen where I had it set, so the electrical issue yesterday must have been the controller to the wavemaker getting fried. Bummer!

So, now I need a new powerhead/wavemaker. I guess you get what you pay for and I don't think I want to risk anymore cheap chinese ones. My son gave me an mp10 and I am impressed with the vortech. So I am gonna bite the bullet and buy an mp40 and another wet side for both pumps. Holy smokes, that's gonna be as much as I spent on tank and stand! Oh well, I think it will be a good investment in the end as far as making maintenance easier and outfitting the tank with the least intrusive but most effective powerhead.

Sorry George, somehow I missed your question about powerheads. See, old age is hitting me too!

It was the same as the 56g but I am not getting enough flow in this long tank. Then there was the electrical incident with the Carefree Fish wavemaker so I ordered an mp 40 today. The AC 110 adds a fair amount of flow but not well distributed through the tank. I will have the mp 10 that I got from my son at the other end of the tank from the AC and have it toward the back. I will place it high for surface agitation. I will place the mp 40 at the same end as the mp 10 but have the 40 lower on the glass and more toward the front. With a predominantly softies tank I think it will be ok.

What a nice peaceful relaxing piece of artwork!
Aw, thank you Uncle99! Yes, I was trying to create peaceful and relaxing. However I did intentionally throw a few elements of discord just to create a bit of dichotomy. Look in the left side of the kelp and you will see a ribbonfish with sharp teeth. Then down along the sand in the middle of the tank is an anglerfish. Finally in the rockwork in front of the largest leafy dragon is a saber tooth dinosaur skull. I tried to keep them subtle enough to not be glaring so that the overall feel of the tank was peaceful and relaxing. It's my way of dealing with the tension of wanting a serene peaceful fish tank but always wondering when something is going to disrupt that peace, ha ha!

Jebao have been relatively inexpensive and very reliable for me for years

Yes, I also have been happy with Jabao in the past and probably should have chosen that. What sold me was being able to swap out the wet sides without unplugging power cords. Shame on me but I am getting lazy and looking for ways to make maintenance as easy as possible! Is that another old age thing?

Well the ugly stage came and went which is what I thought would happen since I used all my rock from my last tank. I have pods on the glass even when the lights are on. I really want a leopard wrasse or Christmas wrasse so I may still buy some from Algae Barn right before I order fish. I also want a bristle tooth tang, tomini or kole and a 1 spot foxface and a small sharpnose puffer. That should fill the tank pretty well. Lastly I want dragon's breath and blue octodes for macroalgae. I need to test nitrates and phosphates first.

Nitrates are around 15ppm and phosphates are .5ppm so it seems like a good time to place that macroalgae order. Maybe I should order the pods too so I can get more fish. Once my gracilaria feels settled and begins growing again, my nutrients could drop fast. More fish could help with that.
I also modified my auto fish feeder to fit this new tank. The frame is bigger on this tank so the bracket on the fish feeder was too small. Nothing a dremel couldn't fix! Now the bracket fits the tank frame and it doesn't look ghetto. (Sometimes when I modify things, they look like it! LOL). Anyway feeding the tank should help the nutrients too.

There's been a lot of buzz regarding pods from this place on social media lately. I'm considering using them when I finally (if ever) get around to my upgrade.
