75g Lurking danger and Leafy Seadragons

Sorry for the loss and sounds like a plan
Thanks Reefing 102. This morning I did some maintenance and removed the wavemaker without the cover. It started to make a squealing noise a few days ago and the controller was frozen in the set position about 3 months ago so I am not trusting it to even be in the tank with a cover. A new wavemaker I guess is part of 2026 plans too.

I made an impulsive trip to our lfs and came home with a solorensis fairy wrasse, a longnose hawkfish and 2 pajama cardinalfish. They all look robust and are in acclimation nets tonight but I will plan to release them when the lights go down.

I also bought some ulva and cheato, which will make Spike the foxface happy. Merry Christmas to me!

I am happy to report that all the new fish are out swimming around and I have seen them all eat. I am not seeing any bullying which is wonderful. Aggression is the most stressful part of adding new fish for me. I am wondering if having more horizontal swimming space is helping with that? I was thinking of ordering a group of chalk bass from KP Aquatics but I think I will pass on that with the hawkfish. Chalk bass can be fairly small which might not bode well.

Very nice, love that Hawk!
I love the hawk too! All hawkfish are so cool the way they perch on the rockwork. I have had flame hawks and spotted hawks before. 20 yrs I tried a longnose (which have always been my favorite) and it didn't live long and so I never tried another one til now. This guy seems healthy and robust so hoping for a lot of years of enjoying him.

The Caribbean Hawks aren’t the most colorful but, have tons of personality and are very hardy.

That's awesome! Although, I don't know that the longnose variety come from the caribbean???? Anyway keeping my fingers crossed that he is hardy! He eats well so that's a good start to a long life. I subscribe to that philosophy myself! LOL

Oh, sorry, I wasn’t clear. Longnose are not Caribbean. I was just commenting on another species of hawk.

“Hawk” is such a perfect description IMM.
He (or she maybe) can stand upright to mimick a gorgonian branch. Centre, pic 2. Like a chameleon.

Love your set up very natural looking. The mural is amazing!
Thank you Bill for the kind words. I have been busy with grandkids and then a vacation in Orlando so I am only catching up with my thread now. I strive to make my tank look like something I could see snorkling, so you have encouraged me that I am on the right track.

Just came home from vacation. The tank looks pretty good but is sorely in need of a water change. We had grandkids since Dec 26th and then left the 3rd to take them home in Charlotte area. We left our kids' home and went to Orlando for 6 days. While we were there we checked out Top Shelf Aquatics which was cool. I actually came home with a macroalgae similar to dragon's breath, a digi, a monti and a lepto. The coral and macroalgae were in the bags for 2 days but everything made it this far. I will see how things look tomorrow?

Dawn, as a diver since 85/86, your tank definitely looks natural👍

Well, at least what the Caribbean reefs looked like back then.
Sad but true. When I saw Penchamp reef back in 2006, it was beautiful. The Bahamas too but earlier this year when I snorkelled most of the coral were gone.

Yeah, I was certified in Marathon Key in 85/86. Visited Cozumel the following summer. Do e Jamaica on our honeymoon in 92. Cozumel again in 2002 and Rivera Maya in 2007. The reefs we stunning back then. We’ve since been to Fort Lauderdale and the Keys and it was depressing.
