75g Lurking danger and Leafy Seadragons

Yeah, I was certified in Marsthin Key in 85/86. Visited Cozumel the following summer. Do e Jamaica on our honeymoon in 92. Cozumel again in 2002 and Rivera Maya in 2007. The reefs we stunning back then. We’ve since been to Fort Lauderdale and the Keys and it was depressing.
I really wanted to get certified for diving but just never got around to it. Its the only bucket list thing that I haven't done yet.

Not sure how autocorrect changed Marathon to Marsthin and Did to Do e and I didn't catch before I posted.

I've done a couple water changes since I got home, tested PO4 and NO3 (which were good), and rinsed the prefilter out yesterday. I had not done that since Dec 5th and it was really dirty. The flow back into the tank was still vigorous though so I am so pleased with how well the BioMaster canister is performing and how easy it is to maintain. I will include a Pic of the dirty water.

The digi didn't make it sadly but I think the lepto and monti will be ok. I keep the big picture in mind which is the tank did well the week I was away and buying coral and needing to travel 2 full days was risky, so all in all its 👍.

Sorry about the loss of the Monti. Surprising since they are usually very hardy.
Thanks George! It was the digi that didn't make it, I think the monti is going to be ok.
I think digis are usually hardy too but maybe not as hardy as montis.

Oh, I refer to digitata as Montis since I tend to use the scientific names, Montipora Digitata😉
Oops, my bad! she says a bit embarrassed. I will confess that I barely know any sps names, scientific or otherwise.
Do folks call monticaps montis?

No need to be embarrassed. I’m a crabby old man who doesn’t like the “fancy names.”🤣

Montipora Capricornis I’ve heard people call both Monti or Caps.

Ha ha, better to be a crabby old man who doesn't like fancy names than an old woman who can't remember any names, fancy or otherwise! I am trying however.

So I keep finding my new lepto frag pushed over. I have moved it several places in hoping whoever is the culprit will be ok with the new location but that has proved to be to no avail. This morning when I found it pushed over I moved it up against a rock wall so that it would not be as easily dislodged. While I was drinking my coffee I saw Jack Blenny the Midas do the dastardly deed! At least now I know who the perpetrator is. I may have to epoxy it in a small rock that has an indentation so that Jack can't flip it over. What possesses a fish to even care about such things?

I shared an order from KP Aquatics with a local reef aquarist and it came today. I ordered a tobacco bass, a neon cleaner goby and a bridled goby. I had a cleaner goby from them before and they eat prepared food but also will clean the fish. I just like basselets and the tobacco bass was the only one available and the same with the bridled goby. I never met a goby that I didn't like.
I also ordered another cucumber, some astrea snails, a small hermit crab, more macros; shaving brush, mermaids fan and halimeda.
As always everything arrived in perfect shape. KP Aquatics are wonderful.

This morning when I fed the tank I saw 2 of the 3 new fish, the bridled goby and the neon cleaner goby. I have not seen the tobacco bass yet but it was pretty little and is probably hiding in the rock. I will feed heavy the next couple of weeks to help the new fish settle in plus I want to fatten up the wrasse as well. The snails are everywhere doing their job and the conch that I traded with the other aquarist is half buried in the sand. I also don't see the cucumber but Karl used to be MIA for a week sometimes. Tomorrow I will do a water change and hopefully take some pics!

I like Ryan but, I don’t know that I can make it through an hour long video🤣

The tank is looking great.
I hear ya George, that video pushed my attention span. It was really good and made me appreciate the things my boss had mentored me on all things reef back in the 90s. He taught me the science and a lot of that had to deal with biome and micro biolife. In those days Lloyd knew that a lot of nuisance life was photosynthetic and he was a proponent of limiting light and letting the pods get a chance to colonize a tank before algae got rampant. He also was all about balance in a tank so that fish, inverts, coral, macroalgae and microlife worked together for an aesthetically pleasing reef. What he taught me wasn't dependant on equipment and I am grateful for those years I could learn from him.

I am excited to report that the 3 new fish are eating. During the feeding frenzy, the tank definitely looks fully stocked! The gobies and the bass stay quietly hidden until there is food and then everyone is out in full force.

I have been dosing a capful of Flourish for the macroalgae and I believe that it helped the shaving brush I bought before Thanksgiving to last longer than any other shaving brushes I have kept. I am going to dose a capful of Flourish 2Xs a week in hopes of keeping macros thriving even better. I have known that macros use iron very quickly but I don't have an iron test kit so I have been making evaluations based on observation alone. I also have a Halimeda left from the earlier order and now I have 2 more to observe.

Another change I am making is adding AFR to my water change saltwater bin. That will be a more consistent method of adding the big 3; Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium. Everything looks good after 1 water change so keeping my fingers 🤞.

Wow, I actually counted my fish today and I have 17! I have never had that many fish in 1 tank before and there is no aggression. Now many of them are small, only 1" and I have a good bit of rock with lots of hidey holes so everyone has a place to call home. Even the 3 new fish are coming out regularly now. The only fish that does not seem comfortable is the firefish goby. It started hiding after I got the wrasse and hawkfish although I have never seen either of them act aggressive toward the firefish or any other fish. I would have loved to get a possum wrasse but I know that I am already overstocked so I am not going to get any more fish. I really do love watching so many fairly fat fish swim comfortably in and through the rockwork like I have seen snorkeling. Its very rewarding

Here are some pics of the new fish during feeding time. You have to look hard to see them. The bridled goby is white and blends in with the sand. The tobacco bass is just little. You can see how well the snails cleaned up the head of the seahorse statue. The conch is doing a bang up job on the sand too! I still havent seen the new cucumber since the 2nd day. Also pictured are the new lepto and monticap. Finally i took a pic of the RFA just because its pretty!
