75g setup

Wanted some input from people.

Currently I have a 21g biocube and 7.5 gallon pico, Since day 1 I knew I wanted to go larger, but nothing to large, 75-90 has always been my target size as I am a fan of the footprint for the space I would put it in.

I found this setup locally and wondering what everyone thinks. I dont think it's a terrible deal, but dont want to be putting this kind of money down if I am out of my mind. I could always hold off and buy some other time, I just dont want to pass up the opportunity if its a great deal.

Tank is a 75G standard 48" with a slightly off center plastic overflow (kind that goes bottom to top, with the bottom of the tank drilled).

Comes with:
Stand
Sump (All-Glass Aquariums Megaflow Sump Model 2)
5 stage BRS RODI
Two little Fishies Phosban 150 reactor
Apex controller (EB8 model with display, standard no extra modules)
Coralife Super Skimmer
Coralife Aqualight Pro 48" ACL53506

misc other items, rock, sand, pumps, buckets, salt etc

asking $1k

I would build a different stand and probably a canopy. My biggest aversion is the light, I know a lot of people have it and have no issue with it, but I am a huge fan of LED's just really hate the cost of them right now with a bigger tank, could easly drop another $1000 on lights. I just dont want it to run too hot with PC's or MH.

Overall thoughts? to much? just right? crazy to pass up?

thanks everyone

Hmmm, I would not want the sump, which seems to be designed for bioballs and does not have enough room for good sized skimmer/reactor.

If this is the light system (Coralife 48 Inch Aqualight Pro Retrofit Kit, 2x150W HQI Lamp + 2x96W CF Lamps Sq. Pin + 4x1W LEDs), I'm not crazy about 150 watt halides (unless you intend to keep softies only) and CF bulbs are 2 generations old.

No experience with skimmer but strongly suspect you will need to upgrade fairly quickly.

I think TLF 150 reactor will need to be upgraded to TLF 550.

Sand is more trouble than it's worth to transfer IMO. No idea whether rocks would be worth saving.

You say you don't want the stand.

BRS RO/DI system is a plus but you may need to replace filters. (If you decide to buy, I would run RO/DI to make sure it puts out 0 TDS water.)

Have no idea about value of controller.

In sum, I'd pass. I think in the long run you'd probably end up spending more $ to bring system up to date (and to your liking) than you would if you started from scratch.

Just my 2 cents,

Mike

I pretty much mirror this. The RO/DI and the controller are the only value items there. If your planning on switch the lights anyway I would keep looking. The sump is passable but you could easily do a DIY 40B cheap. As for the skimmer, well.....there's worse, I guess.

In short I would pass. I too think you could do better for that much $ from scratch

Thanks everyone for the input.

This was basically my thoughts, out of the box, everything would work, just would find myself over time swapping out so its a good point. Will pass on it.

Thank you
