Does anyone know if the tank will be OK if the center brace is removed? Will this be safe, if not can it be fixed if needed?

Oh yea I wouldnt trust it!
I have filled a 55g w/out a brace and it bowed bad!

+1 A while back when I first started setting up my first 55, my center brace broke and the tank bowed a good 1.5 to 2 inches and quite frankly had me worried so bad I couldn't sleep.... It's not a pretty site seeing your glass aquarium bow that far and not knowing if it's going to hold or not.. Definitely replace it.

You can replace the brace with acrylic or stainless steele without much issue. Sean (Discoreefrover) brought his rivet gun over and made quick work of it. Trust me, it was stressful because we did it with a full tank <----not recommended

Thanks guys, I checked out a couple of places and they want $30-$40 for the whole top frame. I think I will just use a piece of acrylic for it.

benny, I found your posts about it when I was searching google for some answers......lol

My 55g sump has an acrylic piece for a center brace. It's only filled to about 65%, so I'm not sure how well it would hold when it's full.
