Hey everyone i am getting my dream tank its going to be made out of acrylic 3/4 in all around. 120x48x30 peninsula style.

will use my old 96x24x30 tank for a sump. will only fill it about half way so about 150gal. plus an eighty gallon glass tank that will be used as a fuge hopefully.

not sure on how many holes for the overflow i will need and what sizes the holes have to be. i want between 3x5 the amount of gph through the sump and fuge.

i'm not sure on how to do the fancy sump plumbing. so if any of you would like to give some examples of a good sump set up that can be used under the stand(120x48x40) thatd be great!

thx

I have the same dimentions on my tank. Made by Tenecor and 3/4 without any hint of a bow. We set it up as a three sided viewing tank. We have one of the ends at 48" as the overflow with an external overflow. I run a sequence Hammerhead for my flow and run 2-1-1/2" drains in the over flow. It manages the flow just fine. If I were to do it again I would cut the teeth deeper on the overflow and go with 2-2" drains just to flow it a little more. You have picked the perfect dimentions for your new tank...we love it!

This is our set up.

awesome tank dca!
what do you mean exactly that you wish the teeth were cut more deep? also what is the length of your overflow in inches?

what is the size of your external overflow box? l x w x h?

whats the size of your return pipes, and how many outlest are returning water to the display?

thx

Thanks! This has been a fun project! Still in the making.

I now wish I could flow more GPH but my return pump can out return the overflows ability to let water drain out. The two drains at the bottom of the overflow can handle the draining but the tank will overflow if I don't taper back the return pump a bit. If I had deeper cuts in the teeth I could flow more water using the same 48" overflow.

The overflow is on one end and goes the full 48" from side to side. The external overflow box is 6"x48"x30".

I have the return pump running to 4, 1" Sea Swirls split into 2, 3/4" Loc Line Y'ed returns.

so your overflow is 30in tall and is outside the tank? (external) that pic makes it look like its inside the tank? why did you decide such a tall external ovrflow? why not make it only a foot tall?

oh also i'm plannin on running a 36in linear overflow with 2xtwo in bulk heads(about 2400gph?)
i got this from the RC calculators.

so how long are the teeth cuts in your overflow? 1in?

i was thinking about long 2in cuts because i want to run two waveboxes and hope thats long enough to be compatible with them

Here is another shot of the external overflow with the return abs 1-1/2" leading to the Sea Swirls

No real reason for the 30" deep overflow other than when I ordered the tank they (Tenecor) suggested it...I think a foot tall is great!

The teeth cuts in my overflow are 1-1/2" deep x 1" wide...I think that 2" would be perfect!

Not sure about the wave boxes...that sounds like a great option

im having a small company called notjustfish.com in so cal build it. heard it from a rc member who had a couple large tanks built and was very satisified with them.

well if the black acrylic was cheaper than clear, i would just go with all black on one side instead of clear. just trying to make up my mind.

Now i remember you AMD30. I remember sending you an PM regarding to the company that makes acrylic tank in RC. My overflow box teeth will be 2.5" deep with 1/2" in between.

i am have no experience with large tanks and little with sumps but wouldn't it be a pain to work in your sump if it is in the stand and 30" high but half full? It know that the 29 gallon in my stand is taller than i would like and I couldn't imagine 30" to be very pratical unless your stand is 40+". Just a thought.
