8 foot tank - glass thickness

Guys and Gals, I know there are variables to be considered, but in general how thick would you expect the glass to be on an 8 foot long tank.
Assume about 25" tall and 24 or 30" front to back.

If you own such a tank I'd like to know what it measures.
I'm trying to determine if 1/2" is typical or not.

Thanks.

Length and width are not a factor. Height is the main concern due to the way water distributes its weight - straight down and then outward at the bottom. 1/2" should be fine for a 25" tall tank. Eurobracing along the long sides at both the top and bottom would be a very good idea.

I was just had a new tank quoted that was 96x30x30 and they said it would euro braced and 3/4 in thick glass. Hell you should my "TANK" of a tank. 72.5x20x27 it has no bracing and 1inch thick.

I just ordered my 96 X 31.5 X 30.5 with glasscages and they are doing it with 3/4'' inch thick glass and eurobracing. My old 72 X 24 X 30 was done with 1/2'' glass, but I would think if you want to go up to 8' than 3/4'' would be the safest bet. They are doing the front and sides with Starphire glass. Can't wait for it to get here!

mine is 96X30WX26D and it is half inch. The Tank builder Euro Braces the Bottom.

Pretty sure I am looking at the same tank builder. GLA right?

It is a nice tank. I just wanted to get a better feel for what is typical.
Since it is not rimless 1/2" seems to be fine at that depth.

Thanks to everyone who posted their numbers for me .

Yes it has been up for a year and half without any issues. Steve is a great guy - Tell him that you are in communication with Tom and maybe he can cut you a deal. He has sold about 5 320 tanks based on my marketing lol. Just make sure you get two 1.5 drain holes and if you have him build the sump he can temper it for you which is great when you adding/removing to it.

The only issues that I had with the sump is that the baffles blew out upon further investigation he only silicone one side. No problem he fixed it for me a year and half later. My point is make sure he silicones both sides of your baffles in your sump.

Tom, thanks for the input. I agree Steve is a good guy and I find him to be a straight shooter.
I have several tanks from GLA already but I don't love the style of overflow box they use as standard. So far I have been using Gl*******s boxes but the idea of drilling a 320 is a bit different. When I do pull the trigger it will come down to cost (Custom Miracles) vs style of overflow.

It is great to hear how happy you are with the tank.
