8' Rimless Tank

Can anyone point me in the direction of a builder that makes 8' rimless glass aquariums?

I've found some online, but I guess I'm more interested in people that actually first hand experience.

I'm sure it's highly dependent on manufacturer, but does anyone have any clue what it might cost to get a tank and stand built and shipped? I really like the 8' x 3' Reef Savvy, but can't seem to find pricing information.

Most builders will not put prices online. Just shoot them an email, most get back really fast.

When I was having our display and frag tank built, I'd get quotes in a few hours.

You will have to contact the builder for pricing and to be sure they will even build a tank that size in a rimless design. I can tell you that when we were looking for a ne tank we looked into do a 300g rimless through Reef Savvy and the tank alone was going to cost ~$5000. That did not include the stand or shipping.

I know Reef Savvy and Miracle Aquariums are both quality builders. I know there are others, but these were the 2 that kept coming up when we were searching.

My LFS also built custom tanks/stands. Look around for local places, you'll be surprised what's around. Good look with your tank!

check out glasscages.com they have optional features on their custom tanks, i know they eurobrace, but idk if they do rimless.

EDIT: I just checked, it looks like 6' is the longest rimless they do, a 180g

That must have been awhile ago. I sent them an email and it's much more expensive now. I was hoping for something in the $4,000 region.

If I'm going to go big, I would really like a rimless. I was hoping to do it for under $10,000 after tank, stand and additional equipment (bigger skimmer, return pump, MP60s, etc). I guess I severely underestimated the cost of the tank. Perhaps my budget is misplaced...

Some places have 6' rimless tanks, but I'm thinking that might be a weird size to deal with when it comes to lighting. I have one of the Pacific Sun LEDs, but was thinking of switching to MH. I don't think I've ever seen a 6' fixture.

That was only about 5 months ago, but we were looking for a 6' tank.

It seems that you have definitely underestimated the cost associated with setting up a tank of this size. We were into it $10,000 before we even started to consider the water or live stock, and out tank only cost $1400. It is difficult to do a budget build when you get a larger tank like this. It is not impossible, but difficult.

Just lights, rock, sand, and a skimmer, could cost you half your budget. As for a 6 foot MH fixture, you can get the Oddysea fixtures, though you will want to replace the bulbs with better ones, and the ballasts are not the best, but can also be upgraded. That being said, I have had great luck with the Oddysea fixtures with just new bulbs. Either way, they are inexpensive fixtures, so upgrading them is still a viable option. You can find them here:

Preliminary workup with a Glass Cages 6' Rimless, 6' MH fixture, 2 x MP60wES, Reef Octopus Skimmer, 250lbs Dry Rock, 300lbs Sand, Iwaki return pump and 100g Glass Cages sump comes out to right under $9,000 not including shipping and all the miscellaneous crap I'll need.

I really wanted to go with an 8' rimless, but I'm thinking it might be way over what I want to spend. The 8' rimless was $6250. It would be a gorgeous tank, but that's a lot of money just for the tank.

Just be careful with glasscages, there are a TON of horror stories involving their tanks. The quality is very LACKING and the warranties are even worse. I believe they only warranty their tanks for 30 days. You may save money up front, but it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

The more I read about Glass cages, the more I want to keep looking.

I sent Miracles an email this morning and am waiting to hear back from them.
