Hey all new to this forum, just started setting up my 90 gallon aquarium as saltwater, just gathering some info from your boards! great wealth of knowledge btw! I dont think ill even need to buy another book! haha

Anyways came across this video while looking up some s/w reef setups

crazy stuff! seems a little bit small with the shark in there but im more impressed that it isnt eating all the other fish! anyways hi to all this is my first post... if its a repost you can delete it!

Far out!!!! Your right about the shark too, they must keep it in food 24/7. Very interesting GT2NV! Excellent first thread! Welcome to Reef Central. TinMan

Yeah more like 20,000 gallon. But still nice tank. Looks like it could be in a store.

so you think that a shark that gets to over 6' long should be in a 800g tank then????

RC has loads of information, and many people here to help you, so ask away!

Black tip sharks get huge. Why would you even want something like that in a aquarium unless you were prepared to set it free at some point?

Geez like raising a baby elephant in your garage eventually its gonna out grow its enviroment or become too much to deal with.

So many other species of shark come to mind that would be better suited for that 800 gal. Seems a poor choice IMO. Sharks grow pretty fast too.

I hear tell they are good eating though lol...

Thats a beautiful tank and shark looks happy. I think he's pushing it a little though. That shark needs a min. of 1000g tank and then up. But the guy that owned the tank pulled it off. he'll either have to upgrade or take everything else out the tank to make more room for the shark or donate the shark to a bigger aquarium. man those sharks arn't cheap either like 1500 and up for one. BTW nice tank tho, im impressed.

well in the video, the tank looks pretty clean to me, maybe it's a newly set up tank.

i wonder if the shark needs a cave or something to sleep in...and that's only if it can find one.

sharks dont sleep like other fish lol the need to be constantly moving for oxygen to get into their girls.... and a black tip does need a 20,000 gal tank to be kept, they can be very comfortably kept in a 3500.

sorry not all sharks need to move but that one does

This tank is in the LFS that I go to every week.. It was set up as a shop display tank and the shark will only be a temporary resident. Even though he is well fed he has eaten some of the other fish and seems to prefer tangs. The tank has been up and running for several months and it looks clean because all the tanks in this LFS are well maintained.

BTW the sump/fuge is a 240 gallon.

heh, expensive snacks! anyone here on reef central keep any black tip reefs? anyways thanks for the welcome guys, cant wait to finish setting up my reef aquarium!

personally i would love to own a shark! wouldnt that be sweet. But they swim miles and miles they need to be in the sea. would be cool

I agree if he wants to feed him a $40 fish that is his choice...its just like feeding a lionfish or triggers feeder fish is that being mean and cruel too?
