80G 48x24x16 plumbing question

Howdy Folks,

Got a sweet deal on a 80G shallow tank w/ corner internal overflow, stand & 30G sump. I'll be picking things up in the next few weeks.

Now, the tank is drilled through bottom (2-holes) one for the drain (durso) and one for the return. Here is my though tell me if I am on the right track.

I want to use both holes for drains. One for durso and one for emergency and run a external return line to the other side of the tank. Unsure if a herbie would work as the overflow may be kind of tight to work in...

Would this be a better design or should I stick with the stock setup?

I like having two drains. You can add a gate valve near the bottom of the line on the primary drain when you have two drains to eliminate the waterfall noise and it gives you the added security of an emergency drain.

I changed mine to two drains. Works great.

do the herbie..it is safe and 1000000% quieter.
