90 Gal reef for the girls.

Looks like a great project Tim. Maybe I can help you out with the crown molding. The last several stands I build I ended up making my own molding with my router. I can't guarantee I will have all the necessary bits to pull it off but if i don't I am pretty sure we can get pretty close.
I think if I can find something close I'll try and use that. I made all my door moldings for upstairs from raw Birds eye Maple planks and that was a serious endeavor. I'm still not over that traumatic experience to want to try it again. That doesn't mean I won't if I have to, I'll defiantly keep you in mind.

I guess I will stick to ditch digging, I tried to cad something but it was a total mess, there is a lot of tools in that program, it was so bad i won't put it on here LOL.

I guess I am a pencil and paper guy, I did fail mydrafting class in high school, so maybe I just am too stupid. Eric did a really nice drawing of my 10 on Sketchup, but he must know where to get the tools and shapes off that program, i can't seem to find what I need.

Well I attacked the 75 gal sump today to clean it up and remove the filter box and black background.

Whoever put in the background cut away the original caulking so it would fit, so now I'll need to recaulk some of the seams.

Whoever had this tank before me must have cleaned the glass with a cinder block due to all the scratches.
Holy cow, this never would have made a good fish tank, I'm glad I got it for a sump and saved someone from getting it for a fish or reef tank.

I didn't know you could scratch a glass tank like that.
I guess some people just don't care very much about their stuff.
Look's like a lot of work, are there any scratches in the 90 you are using for the display?

I don't know now, I haven't cleaned that one up yet, man I hope not.

That thing cleaned up nice, Tim. You should see my sump with the cracked glass and acrylic repairs!!!1

That's about the only thing It's good for now is a sump IMO.
It'll work fine for that.

Well I ordered one of these today to help simplify my ATO and WC.

Automatic Liquid Level Controllers by Spectra Pure.
Multiple Tank Liquid Replenisher (LLC-M)

I also ordered one of these to help with that also. I'm currently doing 10 gal WC a week and am going to bump it up to 30 when the new system is done, so 5 gal buckets will no longer acceptable.

Heavy Duty Polyethylene Tank
For heavy duty service wall thickness approx. 1/4".
30 Gallon 18 1/2" x 29 1/2"

sweet, so you can use the same Ro unit to top off the tank and the saltwater mixing vat? Automatically?
Thanks cool if so

Yep that's the plan. I'll have one float in the sump for ATO and the other one in the 30 gal mixing tank. Both will be hooked up to the RODI by one solenoid valve.

That is very cool, I need to upgrade mine to a dual, you have one upped me Tim, I know that makes you happy ;)

I spent the better part of the day putting together the temporary sump system. It didn't help that I didn't tighten down the inlet and outlet enough and they both leaked when I fired it up. Another trip to Lowes and a couple more hours and I'm getting ready to fire it up again.

So tomorrow I can concentrate on ripping this mess out and getting it ready for the new sump.

I love it when a plan comes together, a few more weeks and you'll be christening the tank. Looks like some work but well worth the cost investment in the end.

Pass on my complements that stand looks nice,. The tank cleaned up pretty good, should be one heck of a nice sump.

Surfs up

Well I got the skimmer, chiller, and spray bar hooked up today and the temp sump is pulling the full load.
The old sump is disconnected and most of the mess behind the tank has been gutted which I should be able to finish tomorrow. You gotta love the stain on the carpet from kicking over a full can of PVC primer. I guess I better start looking for a throw rug. Hopefully with the windows open all night the fumes will be a little more tolerable tomorrow.

I still had a leak on the output of the Dart. It wasn't very bad, maybe a drip every 10 seconds. I fixed it with a hose clamp and a piece of rubber cut out of a tie down strap.

Ok I have a new canvas to work with now, man what a difference.

Next week I'll attack the 16 new outlets that will go on the sump wall and wire in the sub panel, all under Russ's guidance of course.

Sweet, I went out of town at just the right time ;)
It will be nice to have a fresh setup, that sump was a mess after so many years huh?
Keep the photos coming!
