90 gallon reef ready price?

The subject says it all.. How much are standard 90 gallon reef ready tanks on the average? I have a 90 that is drilled, & have the bulkheads.. but I am afraid I am not going to be happy with my DIY plumbing. If its not to bad, I might consider just buying a RR tank. I figure it will be too much, but figured I would ask!

what do you mean your tank is drilled, yet not reef ready. Reef Ready generally means it is drilled. You add the bulkheads and plumbing.

If you drilled it yourself ask Barry about getting you the intank overflows that you can silicone in yourself. Then you have a reef ready tank.

I was referring to a tank with the bottom drilled, not the back. The drilling was done DIY with 2 1.5" blukheads on either end of the back glass (by the great Aquawayne) & is about 5" down from the rim of the tank. I know I CAN do the rest of the plumbing myself.. I am just leery of it. I figured a RR with a Durso would eliminate alof of my worries.

sorry for a fourth post in my own thread, but just wanted to give thanks to Mary for posting her thoughts on the subject... I have been worrying over these damn overflows forever now... and just dont know what I am going to do.... I suppose I could just have a pipe come up from the BH to the bottom of the lip... but I am very concerned about noise... those are some pretty large BHs.

Well, if I have it workign right in my head... and its very likely that I dont.... If I am draining water out of my tank into a calfo overflow, then the over flow will be just getting a trickle of water into it.. just draining it out as fast as the sump can push it over the lip of the tank. My worry is that it would just be very loud.

I wish I could get the search feature on this site to work more often. Anyhow, I read a thread awhile back which talked about the noise of an overflow box. IIRC they fix is having the inlets with a 90degree elbow turned down. I took it as the only noise you would hear is the water running into the box.

Speaking of overflow boxes, I was also reading up on the teeth style guard vs no guard at all. They said that you get optimum surface skimming without a guard but some are worried about critters getting into it too easily. Any thoughts on this?

I have the guard type and my mandarin still got over it. So I would say that without the guard it would be a constant problem.

Maybe if the manufacturer were to make the guard a little wider.

Cutting out every other one, would in my opinion be to wide. But maybe just double the width between, will leaving the divider piece the same size. More Ideal in my opinion. (hint to manufacturer's)

Probably between 400 and 500 mostly.

I got to looking at my tank last night, the BHs are about 6" from the center of the 1.5" BH to the bottom of the rim. I think I will just put the pipe straight up from the BH to the top & puts some mesh & sponge around the top, & clean them monthly.

Do any of you have any thoughts on if I should choke the pipe down from 1.5" to 1"on the outside of the tank, or should I just leave it wide open at 1.5"?

assuming that you have to use an elbow between the BH and the pipe. I would probably leave it at 1.5". If it is to much flow through the sump then use an inline shut off to adjust it where you want the flow to be.

I would not choke the pipe anywhere. Try to keep it 1.5 the whole distance of the drain all the way to the sump. If you reduce it anywhere along the way you will lose drainage capacity.

No it would not. The overflow should actually quiet the sound once you adjust the drain.
