90 Gallon Reef Tank Build

Hello all I am new to the forum and just started a new tank build. I'm doing all of the work from the design and build of the stand and canopy to the sump and equipment needed to keep a good tank. I'm a little rusty at this since it has been about 7 years that I have owned a saltwater tank. I used to have a 50 gallon bow front with a 10 gal sump that I ran for about 3 years then I ended up building a new home and didn't want to move the tank twice to get there :fun5:. This tank build will take me a couple of months due to finance and time ...

So we begin .... I just bought a 90 gallon 48" aquarium about 3 weeks ago and have been working on the stand. So far I have built the frame for the stand and canopy along with wrapping it with 1/2" Birch plywood. Next I have to start trimming the stand out which I should begin this week. The stand will end up being stained, so that is why I used the stain grade wood (Birch). The frame of the stand is made from 2X4's and the frame of the canopy is 1X2's. As you will see in the pictures to come I plan on having a panel on the canopy and stand for easy access.

Pictures to come soon and look forward to your comments. PS I tried doing this on the Reef Blog, but for some reason the pictures would not show. I'll try here and see what happens:thumbsup:

Looking forward to the build! I've been out of the game for 10 years now, feels good to be back. My kids keep asking me what are we going to do know or what fish are we going to get? I love seeing there excitement! Good luck and plan, plan, plan.

Thanks Maxxingout.. Do you happen to see the pictures above ? I'm having issues getting my pics to post. I can see them but when I go to another machine nothing :(

no sorry, I don't see any photos. How are you loading them up, from a online photo storing location such as photobucket? If you're trying to post pics straight from your home computer, it will not work. Also I'm not 100% but you might need x amount of posts before you can post pictures. I could be wrong though.

Thanks. I did read that you have to have 50 post before you could sell something LOL... Well I'll keep posting till it lets me share my build pictures with you. I am using an online picture posting service.. I can see the post fine which is weird. If they don't allow the post then an error message would be nice. ,...Oh Well.... Looking to trim this out this weekend cant wait :)

Ok, So the build is moving along the following Pictures is of the Canopy and Stand after I got the trim installed. I actually already have it stained ,but haven't taken the pictures yet. I have also purchased a 29 gallon tank for the sump and have my RO/DI system, return pump and overflow sock on order due to arrive this week :) This weekend I will start piecing the sump together and get the plumbing started.. I cant wait!!!!

Thanks... I hope to get the pictures up soon of the completed stand and canopy after it has been stained. Can wait to start on the 29 gal sump this weekend!

I was happy with my build until i saw this lol. Looks great, keep up the good work. What are your plans as far as staining? Light, dark, two toned?

Thanks Chris... I have completed the staining and went with a dark stain called "Kona". I will get a final picture of it with the front panels on soon. In the mean time I have completed my 29 gallon sump and have it plumed :) pictures to follow
