hi all,i'm new to this site and a hopeful newbie to saltwater/reef keeping.i have the room for a 90 gallon tank.is this size too large for a first attempt at reef keeping?i looked at 75 but felt that the viewing area was too small.i'd also like to have a nice fish population and do not want to be restricted due to tank size.my thoughts were to start off with just live rock for a couple of months so that my wallet could recover from the cost of the tank and stand and also the cost of other equipment.any thoughts would be much appreciated.thanks,Bob.

I feel that a 90 would be a perfect starter tank. Keep in mind that the initial start-up cost might be more but to me they were well worth it. I started with a 56g tank and in about 4 months moved to a 90g.

The bigger the better IMO... Though i would first calculate all the cost that would be going in to your setup. That way you know before you start how much its going to cost you so later down the road you don't get frustrated by trying to keep up cost when you can't and just give up.

thanks for your response.everything that i have read has said bigger is better as far as less water related problems.
i see that you have been doing this for a year.how would you rate your experience so far?
i have had a 28 bow front freshwater with absolutley no problems or fish loss.evey trip to the fish store i find myself at the saltwater section[instead of the fresh water] looking for hours.the cost is conserning but it is obviously worth it.

No tank is to big to start with. The question is can your wallet handle this tank and the supplies needed for it. Thats where the problem lies in. Course thats just my opinion.
