90 or 120 GAL

Go 120! It will offer more options with lighting and most have dual overflows.
24" wide give room for HQI's in the middle with four VHO's or T5's' two on each side. The four flourescents can maintain a tank and you can get away with running the Halides for fewer hours during the day and be able to get a sweet dusk to dawn effect.

Go with the 120. I have a 90, and wish I would have gone bigger. However my next tank will be in the 300 gal range. No sense in messing around.:D

for the difference in price go with the 120. I have a 90 and wish I would have gone with a 125 long. If you have room for a longer tank, my advice would be to get the long.

With long tanks you'll get better fish compatibility, but they are much harder to light if you are going for a coral reef. Dont get a long tank with the single center brace because it gets in the way.

I went back and forth with the 90G vs 120G for several months. I don't have room for a 6' tank so 125G+ was never an option.

I decided on the 90G for cost alone. Just about everything on the 120G cost a little bit more. No one item cost a lot more, but if you add up the cost of everything that you should buy bigger than the overall cost is a good bit difference. You will likely need a larger skimmer, more flow, more sand, more rock, bigger sump, potential lighting for a wider tank, etc. I still like the 120G, but for me the 90G was more realistic.

The 120G is better for aquascaping, lets you stock a little bit more fish, and has more room for equipment under the stand, but all of this comes at a slightly higher pricetag.

I would recommend measuring the space that you want to put it.. and then buy accordingly.

I started with a 55, then added a 75 and then had bought a 100 as well.. then a buddy of mine wanted to get rid of a 150..

Well when the wife was fustrated with not having a dining room anymore.. I got with a LFS and traded it all in for a AGA 150 with no glass brace up top. along with a custom stand and canopy..

So it use to be just a softies tank, but I have recently changed the lighting from 150w mh to 250w mh and the softies have made the change... now have a few peices of SPS as well and so far they are doing great as well.

More decisions, I love it, the more experince the better so I got...

Macronut, reefergeorge and cdbias2 - digging the 125 long, but watching on the center brace and better fish compatibilty.

Otogi-started the 90 G and now craving the 200+:D .

rbtwo4, MHannon, and cdbias2- liking the 120. Aquascaping and lighting pluses.

carb850- cost wise 90g is the way.

I am in the same situation carb850 was in. 90 vs. 120. I already built a stand for a 90G and was gonna go coast to coast with my tank but found out I couldn't drill my tank because it was tempered. Then I started looking at RR style tanks and really like it because not really into HOB overflows. The LFS is willing to take my 90g back for store credit five months after the fact, which is pretty cool. I threw some rocks on my stand just to see how it would look and like most of you have mention, it is a little narrow.
The worst part I gotta figure out how to extend the stand 6" back.
My plan is to start with FOWLR (really light) and has I gain more experience get into mix reef (more into the reef thing).
I have already purchase a H&S A150 and Tek light 6 X 54w fixture,
basically have until this coming wednesday to place my order.

The H&S A150 should work for the 120G nicely. I ended up with an H&S A110-F2000.

With the light, I'm not sure if the 6 bulb Tech would give good coverage in a 24" deep tank. I guess if your using the front 8"+ for a beach it should be okay. When I was comparing the two sizes I was looking at T5HO lighting also. I was looking at the Aquatinics though. The TX5 seems to be made for an 18" deep tank, but to go with the 24" tank I felt I needed the 7 bulb Constellation.

When I was deciding on the light I wanted the ATI 6 X 54w but was told it'll be too much light so I went with the Teks. Oh but it was based on the 90G:lol: . Thanks so I might have to watch out on the lights. Does you T5HO put out alot of heat?

Jbaty LOL, I hope it wasn't in a course of a year. I would get it from my wife too. Infact I'm getting it now because I also have couple of FW tanks:D.
