9010 not skimming

Hello,

I've had my 9010 DOC running 24/7 for approximately a week and a half now and it doesn't seem to want to skim. I have the skimmer running in the sump with the kit that includes the pvc outlet and inner molding for the intake. My sump water level is approximately 7 inches. I have the air screw opened 5 revolutions. Nothing seems to come in the neck or collection cup. There is a small pencil-sized hole in the back of the skimmer with a steady stream of water coming out of it and only a very small amount of water is actually coming out of the foam end of the pvc outlet. I'm assuming this must be a problem, since it doesn't really make sense that it would work that way. I've also double-checked the bottom plate with the suction cups to make sure it wasn't in backwards (thanks to a similar thread on this subject) What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance..

The water flow you describe is correct. Water acts as the gasket to seal the cup and force the foam up and the top hole is a relief that keeps the water at the correct height to seal the cup. What is in the tank right now in terms of livestock and how long has the tank been set up? What is the SG of the water?

It's actually quite heavily stocked for it's age. Here are the specs..

-180 gallon reef with approx 22x water circulation per hour

- 1 month old

- 100 lbs LR

- 2 yellow tangs, kole tang, powder blue tang, diamond goby, pair of clarkii clowns, 5 chromis, 35 snails, 30 hermits

- SG = 1.023

- water runs through carbon, polyfilter, and a foam bubble-reducing block before it reaches the skimmer chamber of my sump

OK, everything sounds OK, just out of curiosity, what color is the poly filter?

The two things to check are, is the air hose to the pump kinked or pinched at any point? They often get pinched between the pump and skimmer body.

Does the airline nipple fit snuggly into the venturi? It should be pretty firmly inserted and not come loose easily.

It looks like that was it. The air line was pinched between the pump and the housing. Thanks alot for everything.
