In general how long do these pumps last if they are cleaned say about every few months?

If you keep the pump clean and don't allow it to run dry it should last 5-10 years. We try to engineer all of our products to last 5 years at a minimum, this does not include wearing parts like the drive unit which ideally would be replaced every 3 years or so. I do see older 230 skimmer pumps come in for service which are well over 10 years old.
