9015 DOC in a 240g System

Roger,

Do you think a 9015 DOC would be adequate for a fairly stocked 240g mixed reef? The draw for me right now is the small size and low power draw, but I've never used one.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance!
Danny

Can you give me a better definition of fairly stocked- how many fish and what type? Do you have any other filtration?

I'll just say heavily stocked, but I do have a 50 gallon refugium and I do 50-100 gallons in water changes a month. Right now I don't have a skimmer at all and my SPS are doing well.

Let me know what you think. As I said, it would be great for me from the standpoint of size and energy efficiency. I don't really want to fork out the extra $ for the 9020.

Appreciate you help!
Danny

In my opinion, unless you are set on having a skimmer cup, the best option is a 9010 and add the 9020.14 drain tube. This will outperform a 9015 and costs about the same. A 9010 and 9015 only differ in the cup, which since it doubles as the foam reaction chamber allows you to open the venturi more on the 9015. The 9015 skims very dry, the 9010 can skim very wet, if you add a 9020.14 to a 9010 you get the ability to run the venturi full bore open and get a wetter skimmate which tends to be more effective at PO4 removal.

You would just be throwing $100 away. The 9010 and 9015 are identical except the cup, if you won't be using the cup, why buy it?
