9015 Skimmer

Quick Question:

Just reading thru the instr with the 9015 I ordered. I plan on setting it up in my sump. 180 gal reef tank with under tank sump. Do I follow the instr for "internal skimmer" or "cabinet"? And finally, what is the rec for water draw in my case from 5-70%. It's an established tank, just replacing an AquaC 240 skimmer with the Tunze. I'm assuming in this application I don't use the foam outlet pipe??

Thanks

Dean

Follow the instructions for cabinet, and it uses the foam outlet pipe in the sump. I think the 5-70% thing is for when it is used in the tank so the the skimmer doesnt skim as aggressive and won't hurt phytoplankton. In the sump you let it run wide open.

OK - I need some fresh advice on the 9015. Installed it in my sump at a depth of about 7 inches of water. Established aquarium. I attached the black elbow pipe with foam cover as instructed. The "gate" at the bottom is open all the way. Plugged it in, can't tell if any foam is being produced. Break-in period? But there is no water or anything coming out the black pipe with the blue foam cover? Is there supposed to be? When does water come out of the pipe? The blue air screw is opened all the way - another full turn and it would be off. Help please ??

Thanks!

Yeah water is supposed to be coming out that pipe. Did you install the sump kit? The thing that fits behind the gate where water flows in? If so, take that whole assembly out, and put the pipe in while its out and make sure the pipe is flush inside with the inside part of the gate, otherwise the water cant make it up the pipe. Another thing to check to, and this happened to mine, is that the pump gets knocked out of position while in shipping and it wont work right, so take the bottom plate off and push up on the pump to make sure it is seated right as well.

Once you have water start rising up the stand-pipe, it will take about 3 days to get slimed up and start skimming.

still no foam production with screw out. Water is coming out the foam covered pipe now but at a fairly low rate. Normal?

Another question for the Tunze pro:

If I run ozone through the skimmer is there any possibility it can reduce the skimming efficiency? Is there any particular brand of ozonizer Tunze recommends or anyone has a lot of experience with? I keep hearing Ozotech is the way to go.

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with the ozone, but from what I hear it helps skimming, but I've been told if you don't know anything about it, don't mess with it or you'll kill your tank.

The water isnt supposed to flow very fast out of the pipe. When you look down in the cup or remove it all together, does it look like air is mixed with the water or is it just rolling water?

there is definitely mixing of air and water in the lower chamber so I'm hoping it's just the required break-in period. Hopefully a good foam will start in the next day or so. The pump had definitely become dislodged and required re-seating. Thanks for the great help!
