i posted in another forum and someone told me to come here. I am looking into tunzed powerheads and am wondering what i should get. I have some sps in my tank right now along with a bunch of LPS and softies. I want a tunze stream ph but im unsure on which model to get and price. thanks.

What size tank? Dimensions help me more than gallonage. Do you intend to go mainly SPS later or keep a tank like you have now with just a few specimens?

ya tell me about it. I worry about it evernight ok. what can i say the guy at the lfs did a real good job pithing this tank to me. Anyway, i needed a bigger tank to fit on my 55g stand my dad made out of 4x4s. I could park my truck on this thing. Anyway, i was able to use all the same equipment with a bigger tank. I love the tank, but i will be looking for a new one withing a year or two i have a feeling. you can see pics of it in my gallery.

OK, no problem just wanted to confirm. Well, I see you are a student and probably don't have a ton of money so my poor mans suggestion would be a 6060 on one end and while you can't control it and a wavemaker will ruin it, you can turn it off an on with a timer at one hour intervals. Then, to create some turbulence and a pulse action consider a 7300/2 and a single controller or a 7400/2 and a single controller. This will give you a very nice flow package for about $400. I saw a used 7300/2 on the board yesterday at a pretty good deal. The Streams work best in wide tanks, I generally reserve them for 18" plus width otherwise the flow tends to not flare out fully and be channeled down but given the depth of the tank that should be OK.

i have a couple more questions for you. 6060 seems like it is not all that expensive, so will this be benificial even if it is just on all the time or would four maxi jets on a wavemaker be bettter? also, i was looking on marine depot and couldnt find 7300/2,or the other one you said. not sure what it means?

The 7300/2 and 7400/2 are Turbelle Electronic powerheads and not Streams. They stock them so they must be on the site. The Streams are definitely advantageous over the Maxi Jets. Maxi Jets produce a narrow area of flow, the Stream has a 2" nozzle. and produces a very wide flow. Four maxijets use nearly 100 watts of power and the Stream which puts out 400 more gph than the combo of MJ's uses 15w. The 7300/2 or 7400/2 which pulses up to 1055gph out of a 1" nozzle uses 22 and 44w respectively. 10 w are utilized in a transformer and computer so not much is being wasted as heat. The big advantage of Tunze pumps are durability and energy efficiency. From the beginning the goal was to use as little electricity as possible so heat and waste of energy are minimized. We made our first powerhead 40 years ago so we do it pretty well. I think this combo will give you a great flow pattern and the right level of randomness and controllability for the money.

Are you still recommending 2 6060's with a multicontroller for a 90g AGA? One at each rear corner being on at any given time and pushing to the front opposite corner?

The 6060's won't work with a multicontroller. They cannot be controlled the 6000 would be the controllable version. If you were doing an SPS tank and it was a traditional 90 of 48 by 18 by 24 then yes, that would be my recommendation.

Indeed the 6000's were what I meant to say, thanks. Well my tank is mixed, only a few pieces of SPS and quite a bit of LPS and softies as well as clams and various fish and inverts. Would you still go with this, or something different?

I would suggest the 7300/2, a pair. They also run on the multicontroller. You could also use one 7300/2 and one 6000 this way one end would be more favorable to leathers and SPS- near stream and the other would be better for LPS and most softies and clams.
