A beauty...but REALLY?

erock68

It costs how much?
Was just searching evilbay and came across this. It can be yours for the low price of $225.50 + $39.00 shipping. Size, from the description, is 0.25 x 0.25.

1 polyp!

......Did I mention it has 5 bids?

meh ... its a Niche market ... there are alot of those out there, in every industry ...

my cousin just dropped some crazy money on a broken guitar, with jimmy Hendrix signature on it ... to me, its stupid. to him ... he took a week off work to be with the guitar !

For sure!

I play guitar, have been for about 30 years. I have a USA Jackson, ESP and an American made Fender. I get catalogs from places like Guitar Center and Sam Ash. They advertise Eric Clapton's American Fender for $16.000. Other models more. I would never pay, just because it's "SOMEONE'S" signature guitar....And, I don't mean it has his sig, just his model!

If he spent that kind of money...does he actually plan on playing it or a show piece?

BTW...The name he gave the piece was Krakatoa Zoa.

its a free market, people will dictate the price, if other weren't willing to pay then these prices wouldn't sky rocket. You can bid on it if you really want it, risk a single polyp can possibly melt on you the same day or a couple days after you get it, or just wait till more flood the market just like the recent craze on the donatello or other same liked hyped pieces. I've dealt with GB a bunch, he's a good dude and done right for me. would I pay that much for a single polyp, NO. I can buy a whole bunch colonies of non named or good looking Z's and P's for that price. too each to his own.

Same thing happened with Red hornets and other high priced polyp that came after it. Or $3500 single booger of a chalice, MARKETING - P. T. Barnum Its the battle of the Jones'. To be the first one to buy the next new Z's and P's, put their cartoon name on it, get it to propagate first and sell for lots of $$$ before more hit the market. Don't forget when buying on ebay your also competing against stores that want to buy that polyp, put their name on it and sell it online and pimp it on every other forum =)

That's the thing,

Sure, it's a really nice looking Zoa. Would I buy it..no. I don't care if my tank has the same coral in it, that everyone else has. I'm happy with my Reef.

Just amazes me, what some would do to make a buck and one up...just to have a rare piece. Then go on to gouge the next person.

If I bought it and it melted away....:headwallblue:

its not the animal you pay for, its the experience of keeping it :)

that's the only way to justify buying something alive that's expensive.

its not hard to make money in this market though. visit every store that gets wild shipments, be the first, and have the eye to find the nice stuff. buy it and frag it and sell it with a name ... none of these corals were hunted down from the ends of the world in some un-named reef ... they all come form bali and indo and aussie and ... .its just matter of who snagged it up first :)

Its all about supply and demand! He is a very reputable seller that brings in some of the nicest corals in north America. Most of the big players/ namers buy from him! Guaranty u will see it advertised later for big bucks by another seller! Go Krakatoa!

it advertised later for big bucks
yes that happens a lot as new buyer wants to recoup the money it cost them to get it originally then make extra profit on it to be able to buy the next hyped high priced polyp.

Rudy's place is a really nice place. Lots of really high end corals. I go to his facility 1 to 2 times a month. He is definitely making a name for him self on eBay and recently paired up with Jason fox.

im sure we will see it in joshporksandwiches tank any day now....

Lol. Like donatellos the ocean is big and if someone got 1 polyp of something i'm sure there's thousands out there. I've seen donatellos all over now. Just be patient and you will find it at a more reasonable price in a few months.

I see all the names you are throwing around... I recognize Jason Fox.... but who are the other ones??

Not a bit surprised after seeing that single polyp Candy apple red (ok seller called it a bowser, but it looked more like a CAR) sell for $550 + shipping last month.

I would honestly pay $150-$200 for that polyp in the OP. Its a zoa, it will grow pretty fast and you can make your money back. Thats a sharp polyp for sure....

There is a seller on ebay who buys from Golden Basket and within days throws new names on the pieces and puts a higher price on them. He usually buys large pieces for cheap then frags them up and sells each frag for more than the original colony.

Damn now his prices probably gonna sky rocket since he's paired up with some folks....

I'll still buy from Rudy from time to time and will continue to support him, I'm just not going to pay an arm's ransom on a single polyp.
