Bag the fish back up, take them back the the LFS. If he says he doesn't want them, leave them on the counter and let him know its a gift BECAUSE YOU'LL NEVER BE BACK. $12 A POUND IS LUDICROUS. Jerks like that won't be in business very long so your better off finding a different LFS anyway. Don't by any more live stock until your tank cycles for crying out loud.

While I consider your zeal admirable, I don't agree. A Customer choses to do as they please and from the statement in the first post cyeater knew what he was getting into by purchasing these fish in this manner and chose to do it anyway. He said as much with the grief comment. I hardly think that the LFS should be held responsible both financially and ethically. If you have a shop that does not take items back, know this ahead of time and chose appropriately, that is your job as the consumer. Their job is to warn you of pitfalls but let you make them if you so chose, it's not their place to tell you what to do or not.

However that being said, I do agree with these gentlemen. Using Damsels to cycle a tank is cruel given you will be cycling in tank with live rock. Especially give that Live rock in some forms, especially mail order, will likely have a massive ammonia spike that will no doubt kill the damsels normally faster then you can keep up.

However it's already done. I recommend helping yourself along with the only bio-booster that I have found to -ever- work. Bio-Spira and dang it make sure it was refrigerated. Secondly do water changes frequently and you are likely in for 6-8 weeks of cycling rather then 2-4 weeks. Make sure you have a good test kit and keep on top of it. Do remember Damsels are aggressive in many ways, if you planned on a community tank you need to reconsider, give them to a friend, give them to a reef society, give them to someone who will take care of them and plan better.
