A Clone Gone Wrong

the below pic is of a clone gone wrong, it was once a huge GBTA when an adverser weather condition caused an extended power outage and lead to the onset of a splitting. the end result was two beautiful anemones and 'This'.

without giving away how long it's been in this condition, I'm curious how long others here on the board think it could/would survive in this condition? believe it or not, this pic is of a good day, most days it looks allot worse.

I've had clones that for some reason went to the under side of the rockwork. Didn't notice them until I was selling the rock. Pretty sure that they were there for at least 3 months. ( they are actually doing pretty well now for what I hear )

So, I would hazard a guess and say that yours has been that way for at least 3 months, and it may hang on for another 3 months ( if not longer ). Even though it looks pretty bad, it still looks good - if that makes sense. The foot is still attached and in one piece.

Wow, so I take it longer?? ;)

But, I guess I am not that surprised, mine still looked pretty decent when I "found" it. Sure it would have stayed like that a long time if I hadn't sold the rock. IMO, once you have a healthy (at one point) BTA, they are hard to kill.

So I'm guessing it formed soon after Katrina. Very interesting.

Close but no cookie :) it was a hurricane that killed the power, but it wasn't Katrina, she wasn't even a name on the board at the time.

I had one that looked like that for almost a year - but it wasn't disintegrating so I left it alone (and it was an rbta). Finally it starting growing back the tenacles, got to a nice medium size, and became two rbtas about 10 weeks ago.

Are you doing anything to help it recover?

Recover from what?? i keep it in a healthy system which is about all that i can offer it. if you try to feed it, it closes up (which looks allot worse then the above pic). I've tried different locations in the tank for light/flow and when it's not happy it'll move, in its current location it's content. my best guess is it's recovered and this is what it is, nothing more is going to come from it. mind you the above pic is a close up, the anemone is only about the size of a nickle.

Well, it has a mouth and nascent tentacles, but not much flesh. I'd say it needs to be fed. Now, what it may eat, who knows. I'd be tempted to try nearly microscopic foods - like cyclopeeze, and very, very finely grated brine shrimp or mysis.

I don't think it has to stay this way. It just hasn't gotten what it needs to grow and thrive.

FWIW,
Kevin

any time I've tried feeding it closes up tight. to let the cat out of the bag, the adverse weather condition was Hurricane Ivan in September of 2004. pushing 3 yrs it's been like this, it's grown minimally in that time, it's in my 75 currently with T5s and allot of LPS so it should get the ability to grab some food in the drift if it so chooses. it started off in my old 29 and that's when Ivan came to town and caused the split, after about 6 months in there i moved it to my 120g (both tanks had 250w MH) and it didn't seam to make a difference regardless of which tank it was in.

I agree with Anemone, it needs to be fed.

When you say it closes up tight when you try feeding it, is it getting the food before it closes up? I don't believe that is as good as it can get.
